I was really very surprised to find out my uncle left me 3 of his guitars when he passed away. He was a Martin Man all the way and was the first who bought these fascinating guitars to my attention. I picked the two guitars up about a month ago, so I wanted to share what information I can on the Martin Hd-28v Vintage Dreadnought Guitar. We use to play our instruments together in the late1990's a lot of Hank Williams came out of this guitar.
I will not sell this guitar because it has very special memories for me. The guitar does sounds a lot like my D-28. This one has the legendary Martin tone. The guitar is made by the Martin Company in Nazareth Pennsylvania. The guitar is very beautiful. The Hd -28 v, comes with a solid sitka spruce top. The top is very beautiful. The back and sides of this guitar are solid rosewood. The finish on the top is aging toner, this is one of the differences between the D-28 and the HD28v.
The HD-28v, has a pick-guard that is tortoise color. The total length of the guitar is 40 1/2 inches. the body width is 15 5/8 inches, and the body depth is 4 7/8 inch. There are 14 to 20 clear frets the same as the D-28. The fingerboard width at the nut of this guitar is 1 11/16. The fingerboard is solid black ebony. Ebony is a extremely hard wood. I not only like the sound of this guitar, which is a resonant sound, but it has easy playability with the modified V-shape neck. I like this low profile.
The bridge is solid black Ebony. The pins to the bridge are white with tortoise dots. The tuning machines are open-gear nickel/butterbean. I do not like that thay are not enclosed, but this was made to look like the early war period. This was to give the guitar that classic look, so I understand why it was done. The guitar does have an adjustable truss rod. The guitar is very exceptional and is a vintage classic that will go up in value. I will enjoy adding the 2 guitars to my collection. This guitar was handcrafted it is from the Vintage series. These were considered a remake of the guitars made during war time. This guitar was designed by Martin in 1996 to pay tribute to the Martin guitars of pre World War II period. The Martin Hd-v28 Vintage Dreadnought Guitar, comes with a form-fit Hardshell case. The guitar has a limited lifetime warranty. This particular guitar can also be ordered as the left handed version, with no extra cost.
The great thing about this guitar, is it gives the look of the old 1940's but this guitar has all the modern improvements. This modern guitar has the adjustable truss rod. The originals one did not. Martin use to use the T-Bar which was a big improvement over the simpler flat bar. Martins currently uses the adjustable truss rod which they found out is easier to install. I believe Gibson was one of the first to use the adjustable rod. With this truss rod there is no need to worry about the neck. This neck has the necessary stiffness. This is a real plus, modern is better.
The finished body of this guitar is a polished gloss. I like the way the wood shines on the guitar. The guitar has a scale length of 25.4". It is absolutly perfect.
Overall, I am very pleased with this guitar and very greatful to add this to my collection. I would recommend this guitar to any serious guitar player. A beautiful well built instrument, that continues to go up in value. Thank you for reading.
