Martin D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar

by   vmadwop1 ,   Jan 23, 2008

Pros:  Great sounding, well built, good action, United States made, wonderful resale value, a real instrument!

Cons:  This guitar cost more money. This guitar would require a martin deluxe case, more money.

The Bottom Line:  I would most certainly recommend this guitar to anyone who wants to learn the guitar. Why, a well built guitar, great sound, and a guitar that will loose no value.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Author's Review

I decided to purchase the Martin D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar, because I got to experience the wonderful sound of this guitar and played it at my neighbors. I fell in love with this guitar after that day, but I had to wait 2 years to purchase one, because they are more costly than your average guitar.

Product Description:

Martin D-28 Dreadnought Acousitc Guitar, is a guitar that is made of a solid citka top, with glossy finish. It has East Indian Rosewood for the back. It has genuine ebony fingerboard and bridge. This guitar is well suited to styles of music requiring loud rhythym accompaniment. (Good for singing.) I paid $1600 for this guitar back in 1999, with a hard shell case. According to other places I am shocked to see that the value has gone up to in some places $2150. I was offered $1800 for it by someone but I declined to sell it.

My Thoughts

As an owner of a D-28,I must say it is one of the best guitars I have played. I purchased this guitar in 1999 after playing one at my neighbors house. I love not only the sound of the guitar, but the action is low which makes for easy playability. This is very important to me as I have short fingers. I have had a very positive experience with this well built instrument. I have taught several children to play the guitar over the years. I have found that those children that start out with the used D-28 are still playing the guitar after 20 years.I think mostly because this guitar stays in tune, and each tone is so clear. If you buy used or new D-28 you can always sell it if your child looses interest,as this guitar seem to go up in value.I also love this guitar because it is made in Nazareth,Pa.the USA. The service is also great. I would tell any parent to try and rent a D-28 from your nearest music store or buy a used one. I am fairly sure the child has a chance of staying with this guitar. I would rate the quality as a ten, value ten, features ten.I have also discovered that the older my D-28 gets the bass strings sound even better each year. The sound of the bass sounds deeper.

Overall

Martin D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar has been the best guitar I have ever owned and will probably be my last. That says a lot. I highly recommend this guitar. Your getting a great value for the price, even though it is expensive I still recommend.
