Author's Review

I was fortunate to snatch up this bag at a discounted price, otherwise the sticker shock alone was enought to deter me from this bag. However after bathing in the warmth of this supple and lofty bag, I would almost think that the price is worth it.
The mummy bag is cut generously for my small frame. The shell is a quiet microfiber and ripstop nylon coated with a water repellent finish. The down is 800 fill, which used to be the ultimate in backpacking luxury until some manufacturing companies came out with 900. The cheaper down bags utilize 600 fill. The sleeping bag packs down to the size of a small watermelon and two of these bags could readily fit in the sleeping bag compartment of a large internal frame. Out of the stuff sack, the fill expands to about 10 inches of luxurious loft.
The bag is meticulously crafted and well designed. The baffled shell keeps the down from shifting and migrating and only a few feathers occasionally escape the fabric material. Generally, my feet are the first to sense cold, but this footbox is generously sized and packed with lofty down. There is a nicely stuffed draft tube that seals the zipper opening and the zipper has yet to snag on it. There is also a draft collar and a generously cut hood to seal out the cold. The 15 degree temperature rating is rather subjective. I tend to sleep warm and I find this bag adequate for my cold weather needs when I encounter temperatures in the 20-30 F range ( I haven't camped in anything lower). This bag is so great that even when I am not camping, I will snuggle with this puffy monster at home on wintry nights.
While it will repel light moisture, this bag is not waterproof and will care must be taken to keep it from getting wet and losing its heat retention. There is a Dryloft version of the bag for about $70 more. Like other down bags, the side that is compressed will feel much colder and adequate padding should be used between the bag and the ground for insulation.

I am a big fan of Marmot and I think that this bag is top of the line!
