What can you say about Marilyn Manson that HASN'T been said before? Quite frankly, no one gives a horses a** really. When the subject of Manson comes up, they simply ignore and walk away. Manson isn't the perfect "role model" for pop culture; he's perverted, he wears make-up, his music is of "satanic material", he abuses sex and violence to his pleasure, he is hated by critics and the media, and add whatever you else think he is that I haven't listed. But you know what, despite all this, what would we do without the "Antichrist Superstar"?
Marilyn Manson has been around since the early 90's and so far, they haven't had a live concert DVD until this one(not to my knowledge). I've heard all these crazy things about Manson's concerts; he doesn't give a *shut your mouth* what he says or do, he eats animals on stage, he sexually abuses the audience, spits in the audience's faces, and he humps his own band-mates. This is what you get on Guns, God and Government--except for the animal eating. I'm not thrilled about how Manson portrays his "satanic" image live and how he "entertains" the audience, his music alone should give you the creeps or give you the impression that Marilyn Manson isn't your normal band at all. However, Marilyn Manson must keep his reputation strong and by doing it live, he becomes more controversial.
Guns, God and Government World Tour takes place around the entire world; Tokyo, London, Rome, New York and "everywhere in between". This is the first time I've seen a concert having a style of switching back and forth between different countries simultaneously. Get this, the audio does not break up. However, this is simply done by taking one great(I'm sure they would have picked the best) performance of any song and put the audio over all the other performances of that same song. The whole switching back thing annoys me because it gets repetitive very quickly and it just makes the whole performance feel "jumbled up" for some reason. However, it's worth the money because you're seeing more than one performance of each song!
Guns, God and Government features 17 songs including one intro. Within these 17 songs are some of Manson's biggest hits and the most enjoyable as well. All almost of these performances are standouts. They are all raw, intense, heavy, sadistic and pure Rock & Roll performances done by Marilyn Manson. The track listing follows:
1.Intro/Count To Six And Die. 2.Irresponsible Hate Anthem. 3.The Reflecting God. 4.Great Big White World. 5.Disposable Teens. 6.The Fight Song. 7.The Nobodies. 8.Rock Is Dead. 9.The Dope Show. 10.Cruci-Fiction In Space. 11.Sweet Dreams/Hell Outro. 12.The Love Song. 13.The Death Song. 14.AntiChrist Superstar. 15.The Beautiful People. 16.Astonishing Panorama Of The Endtimes. 17.Lunchbox
There is a bonus feature on the DVD called "The Death Parade". It's a 30 minute length film of the band's last trip around the world and believe it or not, it features the most explicit content than the concert. I won't mention what and I feel the need not to because I might get banned from this website. I totally think this 30 minute film is worthless, it doesn't really contribute to the tour except it's the "All-Access pass" and yeah, it's ALL access! Maybe a good interview from the band or possibly a making-of the tour. Anything, but what it has now! I don't think I need to explain
who should NOT watch this and the concert, right?
I may not be a normal person for liking Manson's music and I don't care. I don't want to be normal. Even though Manson is simply "something else", his music is really good. Him being live is obvious and thanks to this, I won't be attending any of his concerts. I believe Virginia has banned Marilyn Manson from performing where I live. Still, this is a good DVD and anyone that likes Manson's music should definitely get this. Get ready for a show that won't be forgotten any time soon.
