Loses a bit from the big screen, but still great.

by   uncle-al ,  Dec 16, 2008
Pros: ABBA!  Fun Movie!!  Also, the bonus disk in the 2 disk version.
Cons:  Brosnan's singing, sexual innuendo,And it loses some of the magic from the theater.
The Bottom Line: They made an excellent movie from a wonderful  play. (It made appromimately $570 million at the boxoffice.)  It loses a little luster on DVD but is still definitely worth getting.
Review: I am a BIG ABBA fan, (and yes, I am a straight male who will be 47 in March...)   I grew up with them in the seventies. Some people call their music "Bubble Gum" music. I call it "feel good" music. If their music was so bad, then why were they ...

Meryl Streep Sings Her Way Through Mamma Mia!

by   dragonfire88 , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Jun 28, 2009
Pros: Good songs and cast.  Entertaining for the most part.
Cons: Singing by three actors.  Some things don’t work as well.
The Bottom Line: Mamma Mia! won't appeal to everyone, but it is an entertaining musical with a good cast.  People that don't like musicals should stay away.
Review: I have enjoyed musicals for many years, so I've been enjoying the fact that studios are making more of them again.  I wanted to see Mamma Mia! last year, but for some reason I didn't get to it while it was still in the theater.  I ...

Mamma Mia! What a Great Musical!

by   carstairs38 ,  Aug 2, 2008
Pros: Wonderful music; actings, especially by Meryl Streep
Cons: Ending a little weak, Pierce Brosnan's singing, sexual innuendos
The Bottom Line: It's wonderful to get a musical of this nature on the big screen again.
Review: I remember the first time I heard the concept behind Mamma Mia! I thought to myself, "How can you possible make a good musical around pop songs?" I've avoided seeing the play for years. But the previews for the movie looked so good I had to see ...

Mamma Mia!

by   pickyone_5 ,  Jan 24, 2009
Pros: It is a lighthearted movie and a good musical!
Cons: Some scenes were awkward and made it a little innapropriate.
The Bottom Line: It is a great movie to view with close friends, a funny and musically entertaining flick!
Review: I saw this movie with my cousins over summer break recently after it had premiered. We were all very excited for this and it did not let us down, it was a very good representation of the original. I loved the use of ABBA music and I completely enjoy the ...

Mamma Mia! is a fun and interesting musical staring Meryl Streep

by   three_ster ,  Dec 31, 2008
Pros: fun and energetic, lots of good ABBA songs, popcorn type entertainment
Cons: some forced plot use, not quite up-to-par male leads
The Bottom Line: Mamma Mia! was a fun and entertaining musical that used some great ABBA music to play out its plot devices.
Review: Mamma Mia! isn’t the typical film that I would find myself watching, but circumstances led to its rental on DVD, and after sitting through the 108 minute musical, I find myself not regretting the decision to watch it.  I am ...

Take a trip down the aisle you'll never forget! MAMMA MIA!

by   talyseon ,  Dec 17, 2008
Pros: Wonderful story weaves ABBA's bright and shiny music into an enchanting story.
Cons: Helps if you lived though the 70's.  Pierce Brosnan is not a great singer.
The Bottom Line: Fun and engaging, this romantic musical makes a good date movie.
Review: Mamma Mia! (2008) Directed by Phyllida Lloyd.Harry Bright: Is your father here? Sophie: You tell me.This delightful musical based on the music of 70's super group ABBA (Anni-Frid Lyngstad, Benny Andersson, ...

Mamma Mia- Stick to the stage

by   wir55 ,  Mar 27, 2009
Pros: great music, beautiful scenery
Cons: silly, some weird characters
The Bottom Line: This was a decent movie, with great ABBA songs. It's worth a look, but don't spend too much on it
Review:               Twenty year old Sophie Sheridan (Amanda Seyfried) lives with her mother Donna (Meryl Streep) on a small Greek Island. Here Donna runs a hotel known as Villa Donna. Sophie plans to ma...

Mamma Mia! Is The Name Of The Game~

by   jankp , top reviewer in Movies at Epinions.com ,  Jan 15, 2009
Pros: Streep, Seyfried's singing, songs if you're a fan
Cons: story, too many songs, Brosnan's singing, boring, etc.
The Bottom Line: Stringing together a group's old songs with a contrived story does not make much of a movie. 1.5 or so stars.
Review: Let's call 2008's musical movie Mamma Mia! what it is. Its story is a silly contrivance for the purpose of stringing together as many songs by the Swedish 70s' pop group ABBA as possible. There were an astounding twenty songs in the two ...

Thank You For The Music: Forget The Rest

by   andaryl ,  Dec 23, 2008
Pros: Fun Abba songs, Meryl Streep
Cons: Story, script, direction, choreography, Pierce Brosnan
The Bottom Line:

A chance to have fun and enjoy a collection of Abba songs. Meryl Streep is great but the rest of the movie is a bomb.

Review: Take the greatest hits of one of the catchiest power pop combos of all-time, string them together to make a story, add a couple of Hollywood stars, and What D’ya Know? … You Got a Show. Such is the flimsy premise for the 2008 release of ...

Mamma Mia! Not my cup of tea.

by   mql1208 ,  Jan 9, 2009
Pros: Greece
Cons: Overblown production. Stars who shouldn't be starring in this.
The Bottom Line: Can't recommend; it's just not worth the time invested unless you love ABBA.
Review: Mamma Mia, here I go again, my my... Words forever etched in the minds of, well, just about everyone. For better or worse.I'm not the consumer to whom this film would appeal as I have never been an ABBA fan, despite the popularity of the ...
