Script Needed a Doctor

"Malice" epitomizes the type of too clever, but insufficiently thought out suspense-thrillers that were so prevalent throughout the '90's. To be sure, "Malice"'s intriguing plot will have you deeply engrossed, and will surprise you and keep you guessing, but when it's all over one realizes that the tale does not stand up to close scrutiny, so fraught with holes and improbabilities as it is. It would be a disservice to potential viewers to go into plot details, but the film is extremely well-acted by Alec Baldwin, Nicole Kidman and Bill Pullman. Anne Bancroft nearly steals the movie with a brief knockout performance as Kidman's mother. "Malice" is a good movie, that, had a little more care been taken to close up some of the holes in the script's logic, could have been a great one.
