Author's Review

A classic game with some new twists. Magnetica is an intense experience of matching like colored marbles. Marbles of the same color are magetically drawn to one another and will burst if there are more than 2 colliding. What makes this game so intense? The longer you play the harder it gets. More colors are added, buzzers are going off and they move more quickly the closer they get to the reactor.

There are a three different single player modes which will keep you busy forever. The Challenge Mode, Quest Mode and Puzzle mode. The challenge mode is pretty basic, you try to clear marbles until you reach level 99. It is more challenging than it sounds and I have only been able to reach 99 a few times on the normal level. That's right I said the normal level, the only other level is the training level. The Quest Mode is made up of 50 missions. In this mode you try to earn the gold ball. You can play the individual missions as many times as it takes to get a score high enough to earn a gold ball. In the Puzzle Mode you have to use all the marbles they give you and make all the marbles on the track burst. This is my favorite mode because it is the most challenging. There is also a Versus Mode that you can play via DS wireless.

This game stays interesting because of the obstacles and special items. There are rockets that will push the marbles in front of it faster towards the reactor. There are also stop watches that when hit with a marble will either slow down the whole game or will pause the game and let you catch up a bit.

The only thing is if you do not have some kind of screen guard on while playing you could scratch your screen. With your stylus you are flinging balls from one point over and over which eventually will wear and scratch. Also because it is so addicting you will get a sore wrist. Nothing new for us extreme gamers!

If you love puzzle games you should seriously check this one out. It is one of the best D.S. games I have ever played.
