Another great album of songs by the Beatles from 1967. Right after the famous Sgt. Pepper album. This album has lots of amazing material on it. From the great title track, to the very interesting Baby Youre A Rich Man, This album is great from the beginning straight to the end. Lets check out some more of it:
Magical Mystery Tour- Right from the dazzling horn intro, this tune sound great right from the beginning. The Beatles offer some great harmonies in this truly amazing song. The middle bridge is really neat, same with the ending. With the piano, they are these very nice dreamy sections, fitting in very well with the song. The main highlight of this song is surely the great brass sections and fills
The Fool on the Hill- An absolutely beautiful song from Paul McCartney. Pauls voice sound perfect, and works great with the song. Once again, The Beatles add some more instruments to their music, this time they add flutes. The flutes offer some great fills in this masterpiece. A highlight on the album.
Flying- A really strange song written by all four Beatles, and is the only instrumental they ever recorded together. It follows the traditional 12-bar blues chord pattern, while adding some extra effects and "La La" chanting. The strangest part of the song is the ending. It sounds like a bunch of mixed up sounds giving a psychedelic collage in sound. An interesting piece.
Blue Jay Way- George Harrisons strangest sounding Beatles song in my opinion. It fades in slowly with a single quiet organ note, then George comes in singing the haunting tune. The rest of the sing keeps the same steady tone throughout. A very bizarre tune with cellos flowing though it.
Your Mother Should Know- A great song. Its a very nice melody with a very nice "slow boppin" style mood. My favorite part of this song is the middle piano solo. It has some interesting time signature changes during the solo. Once again, some very nice harmonies are in this song.
I Am the Walrus- Surely one of the Beatles most amazing masterpieces. From the great and unusual intro, the song continues through John Lennons really great voice. Of course, The Beatles add more instruments. This time they add a strings section. One amazing aspect of this song is the strange effects produced, which are really amazing considering the time.
Hello Goodbye- This time, violins are added to this Beatles classic. A great tune, with a memorable chorus which will be hard to forget. The upbeat ending is a great way to end the song. Overall, a great tune that shows off what the Beatles are famous for.
Strawberry Fields Forever- John Lennons masterpiece. The quiet intro, the dreamy style of guitar playing and the whole song, with the backwards cymbals, and strings and brass, and countless other amazing parts of this song show how amazing and complex much of the Beatles music is. A highly recommended song and a must-listen.
Penny Lane- A beautiful song. With added flutes and trumpets, this is another famous Beatles classic. The main part I love about this piece is the piccolo trumpet solo in the middle with the amazing range and precision in the playing. An amazing Beatles song.
Baby Youre a Rich Man- This is one of my favorite Beatles songs. Pauls really interesting bass line is what caught my attention. He uses a bow and runs it across the bass to produce a very unique sound. The rest of the song has a great chorus with the great falsetto vocals The Beatles were famous for. One of the best songs on the album.
All You Need is Love- I feel like Ive heard this song way too many times, but it is still a Beatles classic. It shows what the Beatles were so special for. Their message of love, delivered in music, with a great tune to go with it. One amazing song with its great chorus and amazing finale. One of the Beatles best.
I love this album. The booklet contains the lyrics for the first six songs, but doesnt have the rest. Probably because the first 6 were in the film Magical Mystery Tour. The sound quality of the CD is great. Its very clear and precise. Overall, another great album from the Beatles which is highly recommended.
