Author's Review
I was in a hurry to deliver a product on DVD to a client the next day (it was already 9pm), so I bought this Lightscribe burner because I wanted to be able to minimize the equipment I needed to burn and label the DVD.
Installation was simple enough: unpackage everything, plug in all the appropriate cables, turn it on. I have an XP machine, so I did not need the Win98 drivers that were supplied.
I installed the supplied burn software, Nero 7, and copied my data to DVD without a problem. The problem came when I tried to burn an image on the Lightscribe side of the disc.
I created a label that had one JPEG and some simple text, three words only. When I went to print, it acted like everything was fine, but then ejected the DVD and said that there was an internal error.
To be clear, at this point I had data on the DVD side of the disc, but nothing on the Lightscribe side, even though I had flipped the disc for this purpose.
Ii thought that my image (1.6 Mb) might have been too large a file, so I converted it to black and white, no change. Then I tried to burn just the text "Jennifer's 30th Birthday" to the Lightscribe side. Again, no luck.
So, I got on the I/O Magic website and searched for drivers: there are none available. I looked for a support number to call: they all require a toll fee.
I updated the Nero software and tried again from scratch and this time the drive would act like it had successfully burned the data to the DVD, it would even eject the DVD and claim it was successful, but then the DVD was blank.
I've installed, uninstalled, re-installed, and everything else I can think of, but this drive does not work. I even installed it on another machine running Vista. No luck.
Save yourself lots of headache. Do some research and buy a decent drive. Not this one.
