We just traded in a TOMTOM XL 330 for this unit because we wanted the NAVTEQ maps. This GPS was on sale from $350 and we got it for $220 at circuit city.
So far if was been a good unit. The speaker is loud and clear enough to hear over a high A/C, people talking, and a radio. The text to speech is pretty good for a computer generated voice although it does have it's pronunciation flaws. It has lots of POI's and is expandable through the included 2GB SD card.
It is not the easiest thing putting downloaded POI files onto the unit though, you must plug the unit up to your PC, and then get the POI manager to recognize the GPS. Also if the poi's you download are in spreadsheet format you must convert them to .CSV.
Its a great GPS if you just want to get from point A to point B but it has NO customization what so ever. The TOMTOM has different voices, color schemes, and several more features including traffic, help me, weather and their community map correction program. But in order to get the Text-to-Speech you have to pay alot more for a TomTom or Garmin.
Overall i have had great experiences with Magellan and one thing i love about them is in the firmware updates they usually unlock more features and add stuff to your unit. Garmin and TomTom make you buy a whole new unit when they come up with a new feature, magellan will give it to you free so long as it can be added with a firmware update.
Its a great unit, you can find it for a decent price, it gets you to where you want to go easily. And the Text-to Speech really helps you pay more attention to the road. And it has a really cool feature that shows you your next maneuver in detail so you know what to expect.
If you don't care for features like bluetooth, music, photos, traffic, and different voice selections this will be a great unit for you. Magellan is really reliable and thats who I have for my auto navigation and portable and they both work really great.
