Wow... Best GPS Yet

by   criteeker ,  Jun 19, 2007
Pros: Bluetooth, speaks the street names, very light and thin, many pre-loaded maps
Cons: won't sync cell phone contacts, robotic female voice and no option for male voice
The Bottom Line: I was happy with my Roadmate 760 - the Maestro 4040 blows it away with all the new features
Review: I own a Magellan Roadmate 760 GPS and over the last few years I've had to replace the spring-loaded connector three times. And now, all of a sudden, the unit takes forever to get its bearings on the initial start up of the day. GPS Options: ...

Excellent navigation system

by   Globey ,  Dec 5, 2007
Pros: Fairly easy to use, functions as expected.
Cons: Out of box experience (no manual). Some features/commands are not intuitive.
The Bottom Line: This GPS unit does what I expect it to do, which is to make solo navigation easier.
Review: I wanted a GPS unit because I travel alone and find it hard to navigate with a paper map. My first experience with GPS was with a Hertz rental car that had a Magellan GPS unit (Hertz Neverlost) and it was fantastic. I selected the Magellan Maestro 4050 ...

Have GPS, Will Travel

by   heuchera ,  Nov 13, 2007
Pros: Calls out street names ahead of time Good volume Easy to use touch control
Cons: Wish address book could be accessed with fewer keystrokes
The Bottom Line: If you have no sense of direction, this GPS is an absolute must!
Review: I am one of those poor souls who has absolutely NO sense of direction. I dreaded going anywhere new, for I would get hopelessly lost. Even armed with maps, I always managed to take the wrong exit, go the wrong way, be in the wrong lane, and spend hours ...

My Magellan 4040

by   bgbrow ,  Aug 23, 2007
Pros: Easy to use right out of the box.
Cons: would like a bit more worning before a turn signal.
Review: I have just returned from a trip from Chicago to Niagara Falls,Boston,Newport,Hershey Pa and points of intrest in between. I bought the 4040 in Arizona at Costco for $400.00 I then added the traffic unit to it that gave me 3 months service I can renew ...

THE BEST OF THE BEST

by   darla123 ,  Nov 10, 2007
Pros: Everything
Cons: nothing...do not buy the Garmin 350 or the TomTom xl s....
Review: By far the best GPS hands down. Tried the new TomTom XL-S and it was REAL bad.... then tried the so called "best" in the Garman 350.. Well in NYC they are real bad. Took them both back and bought the 4040 and it is GREAT!!! Excellent directions and much ...

GPS: Find your way? If there's a fork in the road you may be forked.

by   krus54 ,  Aug 15, 2007
Pros: Large screen, Clear Map, the included AAA tourbook info
Cons: Can't always exactly pinpoint where you are. Audio sometimes difficult to understand.
The Bottom Line: I highly recommend this. Even with the downsides, I believe this is a terrific device. It's been a lifesaver a couple of times in the short time I've had it.
Review: The strange thing about electronics is that when I say, “I’ll never waste my money on that! Who needs it??” I end up spending my money on it and thinking, “How did I ever live without this?” It happened with satellite radio and now ...

A great GPS that is worth the cost

by   tesimpson ,  Jan 12, 2008
Pros: Strong window mount, tons of POIs, no "frills", 2006 maps.
Cons: Poor tech support, some bluetooth phones not compatible
The Bottom Line: A good GPS, main flaws are with the company and not the actual device, no frills
Review: I purchased the Magellan 4040 a month or so ago, and so far, it has been simply a great device. I did have some glitches with it over the first month, but those were fixed by updating the firmware. As soon as I took it out of the box, turned it on, ...

Expensive, but easy to use

by   mtrenck ,  Mar 26, 2008
Pros: Easy to use right out of the box, voice navigation makes getting lost difficult.
Cons: Hefty price tag. Somewhat of a lag at times.
The Bottom Line: Magellan's Maestro 4050 is an all inclusive top of the line GPS receiver. If you demand the latest and greatest and any cost, you'll love the Maestro.
Review: This review assumes that you already have a basic knowledge of GPS systems and are considering the Magellan MAESTRO 4050 as your model of choice. I work as a paramedic for a local hospital and we have this model GPS in one of our paramedic fly cars. ...

A good choice, if probably not the BEST unit for the $$$

by   excaliburn ,  Apr 17, 2008
Pros: Good size, reliable, great brightness and visibility, simple to operate, usable text-to-speech
Cons: Extraneous Bluetooth features, sometimes reboots, may or may not calculate the "best" route
The Bottom Line: A reliable and functional GPS, with good visibility and understandable text-to-speech, for less than $280 (check on-line sources.) Mine has worked just fine for over 20 months.
Review: I just noticed that another reviewer was comparing this unit (unfavorably) to his ThinkPad and GPS "mouse" combination, He decided that he might just as well stick with the ThinkPad on his front seat. Not sure that I see this as a valid comparison...I ...

Compared 2 units side by side, and to Garmin Nuvi 360

by   mdutra ,  Nov 25, 2007
Pros: "Exit poi's" ease of use, mounting hardeware, AAA tourbook,
Cons: Will get you "close enough" to your final destination.
The Bottom Line: Better than a Garmin Nuvi 360 and costs less! Routes you on more major roads less surface streets. Much better screen as it shows all the poi's on the screen.
Review: Magellan 4040 purchased 11/19/07 returned 11/26/07 Advise: If you want something to take you to a specific address DON’T BUY a 4040! The 4040 is a fantastic GPS navigator from point A to B, but fails getting you to C (the finale address)! It ...
