MAFIA: Rated 'M' for Matured Violence

by   peterbryan ,  Sep 1, 2002
Pros: Compelling story; sprawling city; complex traffic system; variety in missions; long game
Cons: Timed missions; minor stale voice acting; frustrating at times; textures need some work
The Bottom Line: It's wholly unique and surprisingly original. Infinitely more complex and rewarding than Grand Theft Auto III, Mafia is bolder and far more grown up.
Review: *this is the same review I used in PCGR.com, so there is no plagiarism btw.

For a game that started production before Rockstar’s now-classic criminal romp Grand Theft Auto III, Mafia has been widely addressed as a shadow hoping to cash...

Interesting take on the underground Mafia life

by   markn26 ,  Dec 28, 2002
Pros: Immaculate graphics, compelling storyline, great "look and feel"
Cons: Character control too complicated, no freedom to explore city
The Bottom Line: Overall, this game gave me insight into exactly how dangerous mob life is. It's an incredible game and should NOT be missed.
Review: "Mafia" is an excellent title for the PC, it seems to have it all - graphics, storyline, excellent voice acting, a VERY involved plot, fun cutscenes, and a satisfying difficulty level.

***The install:
This is perhaps the most annoying...

Mafia - La Cosa MIA!

by   hiberman ,  Sep 9, 2002
Pros: excellent voice-acting and sound effects, engaging plot, high attention to detail and realism, period-accurate music
Cons: large installation, occasional less-than-what-I'd-hope for quality graphics, no in-game saves
The Bottom Line: This is one of the best games I've played in 2002. Buy it.
Review: First off, I have to say that I came into this game unsure of what to expect...I had been eyeing it up since the empty "coming soon" boxes appeared on Electronics Boutique shelves fairly early this year. Shortly after it arrived on shelves, I stumbled...

Work of art. One of the best games to date.

by   inscrutable_po ,  Nov 26, 2002
Pros: Beautiful graphics. Gorgeous interiors. A well crafted story.
Cons: Some of the controls are a bit clunky. Not enough shooting for some.
The Bottom Line: You won't want to miss this game. It's unique and well crafted. It's the mafia, but it's not the Godfather, the Sopranos or GTA3.
Review: This is probably the first game to have me caring about the characters. Some of the scenes are genuinely moving and you'll be amazed at what they got these pixels to do. The game has the feel of a first run movie or an "important series" at the least....

Welcome to the family

by   boothegoose ,  May 12, 2006
Pros: Rich and diverse plot, cool music, decent graphics
Cons: Driving and steering is awkward
The Bottom Line: Diverse plot worthy of a Mario Puzo novel
Review: Mafia is effectively GTA set in 1920’s America during the time of the Prohibition, with a much more mature and well-developed plot, and features a multitude of painstakingly recreated cars and vehicles from that historical era, and the attention to ...

MAFIA - a must have game

by   euroman1970 ,  Mar 29, 2004
Pros: Excellent storyline, good graphics, intense shootouts, lifelike characters
Cons: No save button, graphics sometimes choppy, some levels get frustrating after a while
The Bottom Line: For $9.99 you can't beat owning one of the best games on the market.
Review: After about 6 months of deliberating I finally purchased this game for $9.99 (from Gamestop.com). Right from the beginning I was completely intrigued by the storyline, cars, characters, and graphics of this game. Opening credits, music, are an A+. You ...

You want to be a made man.

by   studioki ,  Sep 21, 2002
Pros: Great Graphics, excellent story, good action.
Cons: Driving can take a while, some very difficult missions.
The Bottom Line: This is the closest thing to being a gangster that you could possibly get. Buy this and love it.
Review: From the moment that you see your character standing outside is Taxi Cab, Mafia draws you in. What you have is an entire 1920s city that is yours to explore and pillage on your rode to becoming a made man.

A better alternative to GTA3

by   theplayer5891 ,  Dec 28, 2002
Pros: beautiful graphics, great story, plenty of action
Cons: large size, quite low AI, no radio stations!!
The Bottom Line: It’s an excellent game, inspired from the mob films and I enjoyed playing it.
Review: You are Tommy, a taxi driver with a modest life. One night you take a break and while you stay there and smoke your cigarette you see a car chase nearby between two mob families. The members from Salieri family loose in front of those from Morello family...

Mafia: Prequel to Grand Theft Auto.

by   Alkaiser ,  Sep 11, 2002
Pros: Intriguing story, gameplay fairly solid.
Cons: Graphics need some work, radar is a travesty.
The Bottom Line: Good game, worth taking a look at.
Review: The movie industry's got times in the year where critics expect bad movies to come out. There are certain weeks and months that studios choose to offload their bloated, languishing projects so that they can just get them out of their hair.

Mafia-Calling It A GTA Clone Doesn't Do It Justice

by   underdawg ,  Mar 14, 2005
Pros: Nice storyline. Violent.
Cons: Can be frustratingly hard. Cops.
The Bottom Line: A closer look into organized crime.
Review: It is impossible to write a review of Mafia without comparing it to the Grand Theft Auto Series. Just so you know. Like GTA, it is in essence a third-person shooter and you also drive a lot. Your character, Tommy Angelo, is a member of the Mafia ...
