Author's Review
Ah yes, another year, another Madden. The game that jocks and armchair quarterbacks alike go crazy over at the end of every summer arrives for the second year in a row on the Wii, and like last year's version, it comes off as quite surprising in terms of it's controls and use of the Wii-mote, and ends up being the best Madden game in quite some time. The first thing you'll notice is that the controls feel more responsive this time around then they did last year, which is saying something because it was those very innovative controls that made last year's installment worth owning for Wii owners. There is also a new feature, entitled the family play option, which doesn't really amount to much. That aside though, the gameplay is where the real meat and potatoes of Madden NFL 08 is to be had, including a new "weapons" feature which ends up offering some substancial gameplay tweaks, and a more than welcome online feature as well. There are still a boat load of different modes of play, but the game's sometimes overly generous AI is present yet again. Not to mention that the game's graphics engine is looking oh so dated this time around. I know this is the Wii, and that the graphics quality isn't going to be quite as exquisite as what is found on the more powerful systems (that's saying it lightly) but the dated graphics along with some noticable glitches really hurt this year's installment's overall rating. Despite it's faults though, Madden on the Wii is once again more than worth playing and owning for Wii owners, and above all, this is the best Madden game in quite some time, which in itself is quite an accomplishment.
