Author's Review
Macro Dub Infection volume 2 features various artists; including: Maurizio, Bill Laswell, Zulutronic, Tao, and Prince Paul. The album includes two discs, each with 12 songs. Some suprises : The fourth track on the first disk is a follow up of their single "Neon" by Rhys Chatham and Martin Wheeler. The song is called Alteese and it has a strangely blue/jazz trombone sound in the foreground of most of it. Pretty trippy.
Track 11 of disc 1 is done by Japanese soloist 'Tao' and is entitled "Esoteric Red", probably the best track on the album. Higher energy than the rest of the songs here, but it is still trance based. The base is thick and fast but it stays quiet, remaining in the background. I particularly like the sound effects on this one and his use of dynamics. If you close your eyes, you can picture yourself in a horror movie scene through the eyes of an LSD bugged killer.
The last track of the first disc is "When you've reached your peak" by Alec Empire. Much higher energy, very little trance effect. This is the kind of track that would probably get you pretty confused if you weren't sober at the time. This song is an anarchy of clashing sounds used to create the actual beat. Two lines from the song "When you've reached your peak it's time to die" and "Your the only one who gives a damn. Here, I'll go get the nurse" Need I say more?
The second disc isn't as exciting as the first. The first track is "Flump" by skull, formerly known as The Underdog. The track is, at first, very hard to get into, but it quickly turns into a trance-type hip hop feeling;as does most of the second disc. The next track is "Psycho system" by eardrum and its basically junglish drums and chanting... odd.
One track that I definetly must say isn't too appealing in this compilation is "Brother no blood" by Prince Paul. It's not so much that the song is bad, but it has a little bit of a latin beat, with very little trance and is a little too mellow to be anything of liking.
Some of these tracks may or may not be available for sampling @ www.angelfire.com/id/findingreality They won't be available for DL. (I believe that would be violating the creators rights??) But you will be able to listen to them.
