Hmmmm.... How shall I put this?
Ok. Alanis has 3 US albums (forget the canadian releases, 'k?). Out of those three, I like this one the least. There. I've said it.
I guess two or 3 things go into this decision. One - I have heard all but one song off from this CD elsewhere. 'You Learn', 'Head Over Feet', 'Ironic', and 'You Oughta Know' from the legendary CD 'Jagged Little Pill'. 'Joining You', 'That I Would Be Good', and 'I Was Hoping' are from 'Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie'. 'No Pressure Over Cappuccino' from the video 'Jagged Little Pill Live', 'These R The Thoughts' From the Extended CD of 'Joining You', 'King of Pain' by Sting (obviously), and 'Uninvited' from the 'City of Angels' soundtrack.
I hear she routinely performs 'Princes Familiar' on her concert tours, too.
So, 90 percent of the stuff here is all found somewhere else. Hardly anything new. A large part of why I buy an album is to hear new stuff.
Reason two - Although the sound is purer, I am just not that fond of Alanis performing live. I mean, it's okay....but JUST okay.
I guess what I'm trying to say is I was bored by this CD. I appreciate the effort, but there's really nothing new here and nothing that is performed so breakthrough that it really impresses me. I think that the only people that will appreciate this offering are hard-core Alanis fans, and people who want to get acquainted with Ms Morissette's music that have never heard it before (do those exist?).
Solid three.
