Author's Review
I am a cook by hobby and craft. I love to cook. In the 80's I had a lovely double oven in my house in Houston and I used it all the time. I moved and I decided to get a double oven in my new house but I needed a range instead so I paid the extra and bought this THING. No stove top problems but...
I have had this piece of junk since 2004. 6 times I have had this thing worked on, each time on a different oven.
1. 2004, November. I get my beautiful new range
2. 2004, November. Upper igniter burns itself up. Repairman comes out and fixes it.
3. 2005, November. Bottom oven on clean. Burns itself up, throws the breaker in my house and smokes up my house with burning rubber/electrical burn smell. Husband's out of town and I can't sleep because I'm scared the house will burn down. Repairman fixes the igniter, control board and advises me to get the ESP warranty. (HELLO) Do so.
4. 2005. December. Same thing with the upper oven. DITTO.
5. 2006. March. Upper oven on CLEAN. Burns up AGAIN!!
Do you believe this?!$@$#* Repairman comes, etc...
6. 2006. April. Bottom oven on CLEAN. Doesn't clean, smokes up house. Sparkling silver residue on the inside of the oven that floats around on my baking stone and bread dough. Yes I removed the racks. Repairman say to use Easy Off!!!!*%#. Tell repairman what I think. Replaces control board and convection fan.
7. 2006. April same week. Cooking pasta and carmelizing onions on stove and the oven turns itself on then runs up to 450 degrees then to 150 while I am standing there watching in disbelief. Keeps beeping. Call Maytag ESP people and I am greeted by a surly lady who says that my repairs must be 4 times on the exact same item before they will replace it. All this time I have dealt with "customer service" (yea right) and I told her that it was going to burn my house down and I wanted it replaced. She says to make a repair call but it wouldn't be a NEW repair because they came out earlier in the week. I told her, "different oven, different problem". This is on Thursday before Easter and they can't get to me before Tuesday AFTER. Apparently the Maytag Repairman is busy now.
8. Same week AGAIN, the timer goes out.
I will be sending a Certified "nastygram" to Maytag, Whirlpool and the place where I bought it and I will NOT except a replacement this time, I want another brand. Customer service is ridiculous to say the least.
My opinion:
STAY AWAY!!!!!
UPDATE: April 17, 2006
The convection fan isn't working!!*%$ either.
Same part on back order. It's the control switch assembly. This is the third time so we'll see what the warranty does. Says not to use the oven until it comes in.
Says the convection fan is run by the control switch assembly. BBB complaint went to Maytag Cust. Svc so we'll see there too.

May 10, 2006,
Maytag gave me 1150.00 in trade for a new range in my area. I did have to get something from the Maytag dealer so I got the Jenn-Air dual fuel double oven range and I love it so far. The local store picked up the "old" one and brought me this one and installed it for 75.00. Had I traded exactly, there would have been no charge but the extra 785.00 was worth it. I will review the Jenn-Air after I've had it a while.
