Back Lit Buttons (Play/Eject) Stop Lighting

As like most people here, the price was extremely reasonable $39 at Target on sale. We got the desk just about a year ago, just after Christmas (Jan 2006).

It has run pretty well, it is sometimes noisy (we attributed it to some DVD's). The buttons as some folks have mentioned on the remote are small and I might add awkwardly placed but it works. Recently however we noticed the backlit (brilliantly colored cobalt blue) Play & Eject buttons stopped lighting (a bulb perhaps?), it was pleasant and easy to read. Read-on: It also seemed like the power/standby LED took on a different meaning. It now lights when the unit is powered off (standby) and no longer lights when powered on (hmmm). We called Memorex electronics in Florida (no 1-800#), waited 20-30 minutes, another 8-min while they tried and look up our phone number in their system (Zzzz). When we finally get to talk with customer service rep, they simply agreed that something was wrong, we are of course out of warranty, and that for a $24.95 (flat cover all) repair fee + the shipping cost to them in Florida they will repair it (3-4 weeks) and ship it back (at they're cost). Hmmm - That's almost what we paid for it.

I think we'll look it over and see if the bulb/LED is replaceable and fix it ourselves or learn to live with out them perhaps. Just hope other things don't start failing.

P.S - I should note that we have not had the door opening/closing problem as yet as some people have mentioned. Here is a side note to that - we tend not to rely on physically forcing or pushing the drawer closed by hand which should work but instead use the open/close eject button(s) on either the remote or deck itself which maybe saving on wear and tear on the mechanism... Just a thought with inexpensive decks and all.
