Author's Review
Nearly everyone is familiar with the Dirt Devil vacuums because of their ability to carry out the duties that they are meant for. I have recently purchased a Dirt Devil en vision, because generally the Dirt Devil vacuum line is reliable. The hose attachments, quality, and sturdy brand name lured me into paying the sale price of sixty five dollars at Walmart for this housecleaning machine. However, Im finding it extremely hard to get this vacuum to do its job.
Proud of my purchase, I came home and wanted to use it right away. After an hour of figuring out what goes where, following the directions closely of course, I had my spanking new vacuum. As I started to vacuum, I noticed it wasnt picking up much of anything. Placing it on its back, I realized that the brush wasnt spinning. I called the help line and the associate had me take the entire machine apart, and it was then I saw that one of the two belts that keep the brush spinning was broken. I would have simply returned it to the store I purchased it from, but there were bright yellow papers telling me to not return it to the store, but to call the help line. Even on the phone I was led to believe that the Dirt Devil was not returnable. Apparently, belts were not covered in the warranty. By the end of the call, I had to put another twenty dollars into new parts for an already new vacuum. Two weeks later, I had a semi-working vacuum.
I have a bird and, birds being birds, there ends up being a mess of empty seed shells all around their cage. In order to get this particular area clean, I have to remove the hose, hook on the appropriate attachment, get on my hands and knees, and take an extra twenty five minutes to comb and vacuum the area clean. I go through this process because going over it normally at least twice a week, standing up-right, doesnt clean the area thoroughly. I dont mind a little elbow grease, but when I pay a pretty penny for something to do most of the work for me, I expect it to. This tool definitely does not, even when the vacuum is running and working properly. The en vision just isnt getting the job done.
Aside from these two major problems, this product also has horrible maneuverability and a messy filter maintenance process. It cannot bend far under tables and the wide vacuum head makes it hard to get around furniture. Thus, I have to actually move all of my furniture a foot or two in all directions to get the degree of clean I was raised to get. Call it wishful thinking, but I was sure that almost all of the new model vacuums in this day in age bent to at least a one hundred and seventy degree angle to get under tables and such. When taking this creation apart to clean the filter and dirt reservoir, I found it difficult to actually get the filter clean. After shaking it in the garbage, I have to take it outside and pick the stubborn pieces off. I have used bag vacuums all of my life, and I would much rather work with those than the filtered vacuums.
I would most definitely not recommend this particular Dirt Devil vacuum to anyone thinking about purchasing this product. My experience with this model has done anything but make my life easier. The Dirt Devil en vision has a bulky body, terrible warranty, awful cleaning ability, difficult filter cleaning process. I have to admit that the attachments are the only perk in this review. They work well and are easy to use. If only the main vacuum system were as easy to use and did the job as well. Model en vision is more trouble than it is worth.
