Does a decent job for the price
Date of Review: Aug 11, 2005
The Bottom Line: Decent if you align your expectations with the price
With five pets, I collect enough hair in a day to make a coat, and I needed an easier way to manage my mostly tile, some carpet, some berber floors when my large vaccumm cleaner blew out its attachments. After reading the glowing reviews of this guy here and on this other site, I decided he was worth checking out. Heres my opinion:
The good: It picks up light items easily. Its easy to move around with due to the fact that it is rechargable and it weighs barely more than a broom. It is at its best on low-nap, non-pile carpets like berber, and does a decent job on tile. My house is a small house in the city, and closet space is key, so its size is definitely a plus as well.
The bad: Don't be expecting to loose spare change in this vacuum. It doesn't pick up anything heavy. When I say heavy, I mean cat litter weight. In fact, it doesn't really do a good job on that ( I ususally have to run over a spot of cat litter three times and even then it only picks up about 70%). Basically, it does a great job with light items like dust, pet hair, and grass, but beyond that, keep your expectations low. I think this vaccumm is best for people with pets who are looking for a fast way to get all the pet hair.
Additionally, don't bother with the floor setting. The brushes are so light and small that they won't hurt your floors. Keep it on the carpet setting all the time for best results.
Finally, speaking of carpet, dont bother with it on plush carpet unless you're in a rush. It picks up surface dirt but nothing more.
The ugly: You have to empty the container ALL THE TIME. I mean after every room. This is the only way to keep it operating efficiently (which, come to think of it, almost overrides the lack of need to plug it in. but I digress). If it gets even moderately full, it doesn't pick ANYTHING up. I think because it relies on the suction of the empty container to create its little wind tunnel. My husband thinks its crap, but, being male, he also doesn't empty the container. This is key.
