I've had this vacuum for about 2 weeks now and am satisfied that I can retire the broom in our kitchen. I have been using it mostly with the beater bar off on bare floors, and have found it to easily pick up crumbs, dust and dirt with no trouble.
On a hunch, I tried it out on our carpeted stairs which had been done by our main vacuum recently, and was surprised to find it pulled out dust that had been left behind! Ditto the carpet in our bedroom. It has pretty good suction, but needs a little more maintenance to maintain strong airflow.
This model actually has 3 filters, and you need to clean them all or the suction will be reduced and you may find you need to go over an area repeatedly to pick up dirt. To clean the filters, simply remove the dust bin and pull the 2 filters out of the top of the bin. One is cloth and one a plastic screen. The screen needs to be brushed off regularly over the trash to maintain airflow, and the cloth one only rinsed off and dried when it gets really dirty.
The third filter is a foam style that is installed in the main body of the vacuum, visible just above the dust bin when you remove it, and will only once in a while need to be cleaned out. I haven't tried to remove it yet, and would probably just gently vacuum it off while still installed, with my main vacuum.
The one downside to this cordless model is the battery life as others have mentioned, you get around ten minutes per charge, but I find that's enough for my needs as I use the main vac for large areas.
