Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ5 Digital Camera - A Better Alternative To Canon S2 IS

by   dkozin , lead in Electronics at Epinions.com ,  Jun 17, 2005
Pros: Monster Leica zoom, picture quality, price, features, included accessories, live histogram, TIFF, compact, weight
Cons: Zooming could be faster and/or variable-speed, no superwide angle, USB could be faster
The Bottom Line: If you want a 5-Megapixel responsive "monster zoom" camera, this Panasonic FZ5 is a good choice. With 12x optical zoom, optical image...
Review: After using a 2-Megapixel Panasonic DMC-FZ1 (upgraded to FZ2 firmware) for a while and trying out the new 4-Megapixel Panasonic DMC-FZ4, I decided to get the ...

Just what I wanted!

by   shimmertje ,  Jun 3, 2005
Pros: Small, light, clear pictures, stabilizer technology, easy to use
Cons: Some functions hidden in menus, not very wide-angle, stabilizer will not work under certain conditions
The Bottom Line: This is one of the best cameras I've seen for people who take photographs regularly.
Review: I've been looking to replace my Olympus C40 (also known as the D40) for years. When I first got it, it was one of the most compact 4-megapixel cameras out there, but at a 2.8 optical zoom, it just doesn't cut it for occasions when you need something ...

by   sunberries ,  May 1, 2005
Pros: Great stabilized zoom, great at low light, lotsa manual controls. Nice shape, long battery life.
Cons: Plastic feel, tiny buttons,SD Card only, few accessories avail,I want a hot shoe!
The Bottom Line: Been using it, been loving it.
Review: I reviewed this camera at some other website even before it was released in the US. In my review I thought that it was already doing what I expected. This can be a follow-up to my first review. It is still doing everything that I expected and is still ...

DMC-FZ5 a great tech gizmo - here's my experience (plus a 2009 update)

by   an_amazing_guy ,  Dec 30, 2005
Pros: Leica lens, general looks, image stabilization, 12x zoom, Li-ion battery
Cons: Can sometimes hunt for focus on a pure white subject.
The Bottom Line: finds the niche for 12x stabilized zoom and manual exposure.
Review: I will not give the specs; they're easy to find. I will explain who this camera is best suited for and what my experience has been. What makes a bad picture? Poor composition, poor lighting/poor exposure, and blurry pictures. No camera will ...

Excellent higher end consumer camera- Panasonic FZ-5

by   wecrmr ,  May 12, 2006
Pros: Great zooming, Optical image stabilization, advanced yet easy interface, digital viewfinder, great macro.
Cons: No manual focusing (difficulty auto-focusing at max telephoto), darker situations make noisy pictures.
The Bottom Line: I recommend this camera for someone who needs a highly versatile digital camera with many options but doesn't want anything professional.
Review: The Panasonic FZ-5 is definitely not the camera for someone who wants to just take a few pictures of their friends and family. It's a much more advanced camera than a simple point and shoot. This is no SLR, but then again, nothing compares to an ...

by   ramsfan195 ,  May 26, 2005
Pros: Outstanding Leica lens, great features, perfect size and weight, outstanding picture quality and FAST!!!
Cons: SD memory card that's included is too small.
Review: This is my fourth digital camera that I own. It's now my favorite. The Leica lens is outstanding quality. It's unbelievably fast with very little shutter lag. It's priced fair, it's lightweight, easy to set, nice menu system, great macro features, color ...

Great Upgrade from Point and Shooter

by   cajet ,  Jun 18, 2005
Pros: Zoom, Anti-Shake, Low Shutter-Lag
Cons: No Camera case
Review: I bought this camera for my wife after seeing her struggle with the limitations of her Canon A60. Don't get me wrong the Cannon A series take geat pictures. But the benifits of the faster lense, zoom, lower shutter lag, additional megapixel, and better ...

Awesome pictures and zoom. Menu lack a lot of information.

by   maryng ,  Apr 23, 2005
Pros: Sharp pictures and zoom. Menu lack a lot of information.
Cons: Menu lacks a lot of directions and explanations.
Review: Great pictures. I don't even have to use flash for indoor night pictures as I can adjust the brightness to suit them. I can use this feature to make most pictures in dreary weather conditions look bright and great! Pictures are very sharp. Zoom is ...

by   karock2000 ,  Sep 7, 2005
Pros: Zoom lag time PHOTO QUALITY Low light focus assist lamp. Manual control features
Cons: No manual focus. No raw processing.
Review: I have been using digital cameras for over 5 years so have tried a few. Recently used the Olympus c-4000 nice but slow, Dimage Z-3, horrible pics! I have been using DMC-FZ5 for about a month now. I have shot hundreds of photos with it. The camera ...
