Author's Review
What I love about Lucky Magazine is that it makes no pretenses. It says it's about shopping, and it is. Nothing more. If you're looking for a magazine with more substance, go elsewhere.
Lucky lays out items in an almost catalog-like fashion, and clearly displays prices, along with the store and the website and/or phone number where you can obtain the item. Every month there are features and spreads on certain topics, like "Winter Coats" or "Red lipstick". They have a fair amount of variety, but I feel they could do a better job with lower-priced substitutes alongside the more expensive items. There are also fun editorials and beauty reviews, plus home items and just cool stuff. This is a great magazine for you if you love to shop. I think any woman who is fashion concious would love this magazine. They have career-wear recommendations, casual wear, lingerie, even home decor.
I sometimes feel the prices are a bit steep. For example, on one cover, the model wears a belted wool dress by Burberry London that costs $695. I understand cover fashions are a bit more pricey, so I will delve deeper into the issue. In the feature "A week of style", the "key pieces" for a week total out to $6,028!!!
Lucky has inspired me to seek out knockoffs of the styles/outfits I see in the pages for a much lower price. They tend to focus on trends, but also provide solid information on wardrobe staples you could use year after year (and would be well worth the extra money).
Lucky also has cute gimmicks like their stickers and Lucky Breaks. They provide you with little sticker flags saying "Yes!" and "Maybe!" so you can flag things that interest you and go back later. Lucky Breaks is a monthly section of contests, discounts, and deals exclusively for the Lucky Reader. There is also a special shopping section each month (San Fran, London, NY) feauturing stores Lucky loves.
