The Bottom Line: Buy these speakers if they are under 100$, all the Dobly/ DTS 96/24 is a sales gimmick, they speakers just plain SUCK . THX>>LOL
wow was i surprised when i finally plugged these $200 badboys in. Personally i wasnt going to spend 100's of dollars on a computer speaker system, but this setup from logitech really hit it on all notes, i mean optical/coax/3analogue inputs is really impressive on a external control pod, not to mention the onboard decoding of DTS 96/24 thats really impressive since i cant get anything from my computer up to that level yet. And the THX rating.. well we will get to that later. Lets just say after reading numerous reviews on dozens of websites and constantly seeing 5/5, 10 stars and editors awards for this and that, it seemed quite logical to purchase these since i never realy had speakers for the computer, in fact i used my 7yrd old Sony's 2x boombox speakers. Anyways after like 15mins of plugging in wires and posistioning my speakers i finally fired them up. To my horror i found out the center channel speaker is in fact a regular speaker turned 180 degrees, more about the satelite speakers, they suck, they provied absolutely 0 midrange. All midrange and bass is provided through the gigantic 10" sub. Another thing i noticed upon playing a cd throught my ps2 using the optical line is the center channel comes out muffled, i would expect most vocals to be pushed through the front and center channels, but infact the center was inaudible, placing my ear closer to the center channel made me puke in disgust, what i heard was noisy ruffled noises, and when the bass hits, it sounds like the mini 2" woofer bottoms out like when u instantanesly install a power wire to a amp to a woofer ( a big woof)but infact it was disruptive and absolute no quality sound was coming from the center channel. I just dont understand what all those people where smoking when they wrote their review for this speaker system, the sound is horrid, bass is almost always way to overpowered even when its on 3 knicks over from mute, and with the sub muted u can hear the satelites woof out when the bass hits. The highs should overpower the bass but they dont, maybe its my posistioning but i find these speakers to be underpowered for the insane 500watt rating, especialy when the center channel has the highest rating in watts to make it all add up to 500, when obviuosly the center channel is definitly the weakest of the group.
Overall
every review i read on the net made me believe that this would be the pinnacle of sound for Logitech.. and better yet maybe suitable for Home Theater use.. what a JOKE
they are OK.. if i had heard these in person, i would NOT purchase them, in fact it seems like Logitech took their old speakers, shined them up in a new finish, installed a bigger subwoofer and continually used outdated amp hardware to power such a "high end" THX certified speaker system..
THX certified.. what a joke, if you dont know for a speaker system to get THX certified a THX technician must come out to the site with the speakers SETUP already in posistion and test it and validate it. so essentialy you can NEVER purchase a real THX system out of the box because 1/2 of the validation test is how they are setup in the room.
Cons:
No voltage regulator in system, unexpected power loss could result in a dead Control Pod (which results in your 200 system useless and no warranty to replace) for example if u unplug the subwoofer while in use, or turn off master switch on sub when control pod is on.
Control Center must be placed within 3ft of the subwoofer...(cord connected with 0 exceptions on extending) how do i do home theatre with a wired 3 ft control pod????? from the subwoofer? which is usualy the furthest away from listening posistion?
