Works Great - with Latest Firmware Installed

I've been using this router for about a month with great results.

Out of the box, the router(which came with firmware 2.42) was pretty easy to set up and I had it up and running within an hour. It seems that the newest revisions of this router ship with removable plastic feet for vertical mounting, and wall-mount hardware, neither of which I used.

During my first day of usage and testing I found it would reboot after a while, so I did some research and found that I would need to change some settings for stability. Namely, disable the Super G (108 mbps speed in theory) feature entirely! This feature is not approved by wifi standards and can cause considerable interference with neighboring wireless networks! It also only works in channel 6, so if your neighbors use that channel you won't get the 108 mbps anyway.

Once I upgraded to firmware 2.71 beta 10, (available on d-link's ftp site), disabled SuperG, and enabled WPA-PSK, my reboot issues vanished and I was able to use WPA-PSK with AES encryption. My two laptops (one using the atheros chipset, and another using the broadcom chipset) are 64 feet away and I get good to excellent reception and full 54mbps speed through 2 walls without trouble.

I've had the wireless network running for two weeks without a single reboot. There are some things to be desired though; namely the web interface, which has lots of tweakable settings for advanced users but is really non-intuitive to novice users. For some reason the port forwarding feature is called "virtual servers".

Another small but very cool feature is hidden completely from view. If you have a crossover cable, you can use it as a patch cable because of the D-Link 624's wiring.

I'd definitely buy this router again, especially for the price.
