Author's Review
I have had this controller for about a year now, and I must say, it is the best controller investment I have ever made from a third-party vendor. Plus, it is wireless, and let me tell you, that makes such a difference when you have a long room and no comfortable seating nearby.
When I bought this controller, I must say, my experience with non-Sony equipment was not encouraging, to say the least. However, my monthly gaming magazine had highly recommended this controller, and with a long bedroom and the cords on the normal PS2 controllers not reaching my bed, I decided to invest the money and try this product out.
First and foremost, the controller feels very comfortable in your hands. It is moderately weighted, at least, to the controller realm (slightly more than a standard PS2 controller, due to the weight of the 2 AA batteries), and feels comfortable in my hands. My boyfriend, who has larger hands than most, also finds that this controller fits comfortably and is not too small.
The control schematic that this unit offers is also very comfortable and responsive. Whether I am playing a race car game or an RPG, I have never had a problem with either the D-pad or the analog sticks during control. Both depress readily and without any "catching" or delay in response. The analog sticks, in particular, are comfortable on my thumbs, with slight grooves to accommodate them.
Setup for this item is easy, also. The controller comes with 2 AA batteries, as well as a wireless receiver that plugs directly into the controller slots on your PS2. Simply plug the adapter in, install the batteries in the controller, press the button on the adapter until the green light blinks, press any button on the controller, and voila! You will be playing games no problem.
Range on this controller is also very good, and allows you to be across the room and still have a strong signal to the receiver. There is no delay in response time to your game regardless of whether you are 5 feet from your PS2 unit, or 50 feet away.
Battery life on this controller is awesome. One set of standard AAs lasts me many hours, I would say approximately 30, of gametime. This is also assuming I have not been using the Vibration function heavily, as well, which would obviously suck battery juice. It may last longer, however; I am not playing my PS2 nonstop, so I cannot give an estimate. With casual playing and intermittent devoted "junkie" gametime, you should get a few months of service before you have to replace them.
Durability on this product is wonderful. I have dropped it many times, on hard and soft surfaces, and it comes up working fine. The only time I had a problem was during a storage issue next to a speaker; the magnet seemed to interfere with the signal on the remote. However, after about 10 minutes, it seemed to work fine. Also, the surface has suffered no scratches, cuts, etc.
In short, the price for this product, while more than other wireless controllers, may be daunting, but if you want a durable, responsive, comfortable wireless controller, it is simply the best investment you will make. Plus, customer service from Logitech, to my experience, is one of the best out there. So if you did suffer some type of product issue, you would no doubt have a replacement, if not helpful customer service, in short order.
