Labtec Spin 75 Speakers- Decent little stereo speakers
Date of Review: Jun 17, 2004
The Bottom Line: These are decent if you are looking for an inexpensive set of speakers. If you are looking for a premium set of speakers I suggest you look elsewhere.
A couple weeks ago my son received a used computer from his teacher, but it didn't have speakers. After researching the different choices of speakers that were available, I decided on an inexpensive set of speakers from Labtec. Since this was an older machine I wasn't looking to buy a high end set of speakers and CompUSA had the perfect set of speakers from Labtec and I picked them up. I chose the Labtec Spin 75 Speakers.
I was hoping that they would have these speakers setup so I could get an idea of what they would sound like, but I guess CompUSA didn't feel the need to have a set of these on display. So I bought them and brought them home for my son.
Installation
The installation was very simple since this is only a two speaker system; I pulled out the two speakers that were individually wrapped in plastic. Then I pulled out the AC adapter pack and plugged it into the back of the right hand speaker. This same speaker has the volume control and power button. After setting the speakers where he wanted them, I plugged the wire into the speaker jack on the back of the computer on the sound card.
Size
One of the reasons I liked these speakers were that they were small enough to put on his stand that his computer sits on. I didn't have room to put a real computer desk in his bedroom so I had to use a night stand and these small speakers fit perfect on both sides of the monitor. As you can tell at eight inches tall and about four inches wide and deep these are not large speakers. I really like the shape of these speakers; they are pleasing to the eye instead of just being square or rectangle boxes. These speakers are fully contoured and have a laid back shape to them.
A little about the speakers
The speakers are black plastic with a dark gray cloth grill cover. Just below the grill cover is an oval shaped opening (bass port). This bass port allows air to move freely to help protect from bass distortion. These speakers are powered to help create the nice deep base sound. The right side speaker contains the power button, volume knob and it has a headphone jack. The wires that are included are color coded so you can easily connect them in the proper location; the wire connecting to the sound card jack is lime green in color and it plugs into the lime green colored jack on the sound card and the brown connector (AC power adapter) plugs into the back of the right side speaker.
The Labtec Spin 75 speakers are built very decent for a low end speaker system and they are capable of putting out a nice sound and still are inexpensive. If you are looking for a high powered sound coming from these speakers you will be disappointed, but if you are looking for a nice sounding low end speaker system you will like these.

My thoughts
After hooking these speakers up to my son's computer and setup one of his games I could tell that these speakers are really quality made speakers. They had a really decent sound that didn't sound hollow like a lot of low end two speaker systems do.
I could use a set of these for my portable CD player instead of having to wear headphones when I am sitting at home. Granted they aren't going to fill a room with high quality sound like a three speaker system, but they serve their purpose in my house. I will probably end up buying a couple more of these for our other computers.
