I bought this mouse for my brother to get him away from a cord and living the wireless experience. I thought this was a great buy considering you can get this mouse for much less than the MX1000 that costs $70.00. This mouse comes in a few different color configurations; I bought the "Gray" version.
First thing you should know is that this mouse uses a USB receiver and can either be plugged directly into your computers USB port or if you need the extra reception, can be plugged into the cord that comes with it. This mouse has more than 4 buttons if you count the mouse wheel button. Besides the front left and right click buttons you have two buttons below the mouse wheel that serves as forward and back. Below those you have the LED battery indicator. Because this mouse does not have the need for a "bright red LED," the batteries last much longer than of those from wireless mice that do use the bright LED. Logitech advertises this product to last 8 months on a pair of double AA alkaline cells. Well, considering we have had this mouse for at least that time or longer I can tell you that its more like 4 months, which is still great!
I find that this mouse is plenty precise for doing projects on the computer such as using Adobe Photoshop, surfing the internet and typing up documents. I also thought this mouse did well in 3D games such as Star Wars Academy, Red Faction, and Serious Sam. However, I have noticed that this mouse is not as precise as my MX1000 and thus I do not believe it is good enough to play the latest 3D games especially if you want to get headshots in online play. The software that comes with the mouse is that of the same that comes with all Logitech mice and keyboards so there is no difference there. You do need the software to use the forward and back buttons and its nice to have because you can also see your battery level.
You can't go wrong with a wireless mouse when it gets good reviews and costs you only $35.00! I like the fact that you don't need the cord that comes with it to use the USB receiver. Despite what has been advertised by Logitech, this mouse actually has 5 buttons and the batteries last 4 months. Its nice to have easy access forward and back buttons on a mouse when you are web surfing. I like the fact that you don't have to run rechargeable batteries in this mouse that you can just use standard run of the mill alkaline cells! This mouse is precise enough for normal computer use and for some games, but the latest games may suffer due to not being precise enough. The software that comes with the mouse is that of the same that comes with all Logitech mice and keyboards so there is no difference there. I like how you can see your battery level in the software. So all in all, a great mouse, just not the best for gaming.
