Delicious, Tropical Experience Without Leaving Home
Date of Review: Jun 26, 2006
The Bottom Line: Though it seems to fade on me, the heavenly, exotic scent outweighs the lack of durability as a fragrance.
Bora Bora by Liz Claiborne is one of my fave fragrances and that's saying something because I am not a LC fan per se. Bora Bora is a place in Tahiti which is what this reminds me of. Hawaii is not in Tahiti, but i guess this could be reminiscent of that place as well. Anyone who loves tropical scents would adore this one which contains some very unusual and exotic floral components. Just for the record, the top notes are angel's trumpet, coral flower, pink pepper, lychee, midnotes are: frangipani, orchid, warm sand and the base notes include mango musk, amber, and queen of night flower. It is difficult to separate each note, because this perfume is so complex in its character which is pretty dynamic.
In some ways, Bora Bora reminds me of Estee Lauder's Exotic Pleasures which contains some of the same tropical floral notes like mango and coral flower. However, the EL Exotic Pleasures contains greener notes than this one, but they are both delicious. The only criticism of Bora Bora is that it does not last that long after application. I sprayed some on before work and by 11 AM, it was all but gone. Usually, with perfumes i look for ones that will last throughout the day and that won't fade before noon. You may have to reapply this because it is water based and not alcohol based as are many perfumes.
I believe that Liz Claiborne has discontinued this wonderful perfume, but I'm not certain, as I have seen a body spray version in the store lately. I have tried many other "tropical" based fragrances including EL Exotic Pleasures,Gardenia Passion, and Avon's LaHana, but this is my favorite hands down. What I like is the multiple notes and dynamic qualities of this perfume which takes on different characters everytime you smell it. I hope this in fact, hasn't been discontinued, because it should become a classic for its genre. I think you can at least get this on Ebay if you can't find it in stores, and hopefully it will be around or be back by popular demand. Everyone I know who has tried this, including some of the other reviewers, has had a favorable opinion of Bora Bora. It really is a piece of paradise in my own backyard!
