The Bottom Line:  A great movie for your younger children especially if you have girls.

This review is dedicated to Emily and all of the proceeds will go to her and her family. It is an attempt to help in some small way to help with the expenses of having a critically ill child.

This write off is called To Wish Upon A Star and is to be about something Disney. As I have not been to Disney in several years and am not sure that I could do a proper review in that area, I have chosen to do my review on Walt Disney's: Little Mermaid II Return to The Sea. This is one of my daughter Megan's favorite movies. She is five years old.

This film is the sequel to The Little Mermaid and actually finds the plot working in reverse to the first movie. In Little Mermaid Ariel sells herself to Ursula to become human and have legs. Then in Little Mermaid II Melody sells herself to Morgana to trade in her legs for fins because she so loves the sea.

CHARACTERS:

Melody
Ariel: voice by Jodi Benson (Melody's mother)
Eric (Melody's father)
King Triton (Melody's grandfather)

Sebastian
Flounder
: voice by Samuel E. Wright
Scuttle
Tip
and Dash

Morgana
(sister to Little Mermaids Ursula)
Undertow

The movie opens with Ariel and Eric carrying their new daughter to the front of the castle. This would be the spot which faces to the sea. The sea is where Ariel has come from. The two are about to present Melody to her friends and relatives of the sea. They are singing to her the movies opening song--Melody

Tritan her grandfather, gives her a locket so that she would always know that a part of her heart belonged to the sea. That is when Morgana showed up. She tried to take the baby so that she could get all of, King Tritan's power by having him give her his magic triton.

Out of fear of Morgana, Ariel decides that Melody must never go into the sea or even know anything about her mermaid heritage. This all seems to work pretty well. That is until Melody turns twelve. This is when she begins to venture out beyond the safety net of the boundaries that were set up for her. In those ventures, Melody finds the locket that her grandfather had given her. Only, she does not know what it is or that it was really hers. With the finding of the locket, comes new life to Morgana and her quest for King Tritan and his power.

For a moment. Melody must forget about the desires of her heart and go to her birthday party. But, oh how awkward she felt. She never did feel like she belonged to this world. What happens next is a pure disaster and the party is ruined. Things only became worse between Melody and Ariel. The day had come for the truth to be told.

Before that could happen, Melody decided that it was time for her to go out in search of the truth by herself. Now, she falls right into Mogana's spell just as her mother had done with Ursula all those years ago. Melody goes to her and has her dream of becoming a mermaid fulfilled. But, of course, this would come at a price. To be a mermaid forever, Melody must go to Atlantica and steel the magic triton. She had no idea that she would have to steal it from her own grandfather.

So off she goes in search of Atlantica and the triton. While this is going on, Ariel goes in search of Melody. Once in Atlantica, Melody gets her hands on steels the magic triton. Not wanting to trust her mother, and being angry with her, Melody hands over the triton to Morgana. It is only then that she finds out what a horrible mistake that she has made in not trusting her mother. But, now it was too late. Morgana had the power. To make things worse, Morgana turned against Melody and trapped her in a water filled cave behind an ice wall. Worst of all, her time as a mermaid was about to run out.

King Tritan, however, was not about to give up and he came to the aide of his daughter and granddaughter. Eric was not far behind. But, they had no power---What were they going to do? Poor Melody, still trapped behind the ice wall, became human again. Thankfully, her new friends Tip and Dash came to her rescue and saved he. But, for how long?

Melody now thought that she had to save Atlantica and all the creatures of the sea. She went after Morgana and Undertow and got the triton back for her grandfather. King Tritan then rid the sea of Morgana and all of the evil forever.

King Tritan gives Melody the choice of staying in the sea with him forever or going home to the land with her parents. But, Melody had a better idea! When the movie ends, the walls that separate land and sea come down and the families could once again live as one.

My children all really enjoyed this movie, but I must admit that it was much more a favorite of my daughter's than it was my son's. They thought that it was a bit on the girly side, but did enjoy the few action filled moments. The music in the film was wonderfully done as is the case in most Disney film. As for me, being a mother, I always like to see my children watching a film that does not depict any real violence--although there were some questionable moments when Morgan was around. Nothing that would cause any bad dreams or anything. As a parent, I would recommend this to anyone who has smaller children and are looking for an enjoyable movie for them to watch.

What a beautiful story this was about a little girl who dared to Wish Upon A Star When she did, such a beautiful thing happened.

Yes, she had to go through the difficult and the bad before the good prevailed. But, good finally did reign.

So to you, Emily, I say: Wish Upon A Star and always remember that all of your friends at Epinions are wishing with you.

Please stop by and read the other participants in this write off. Do it for Emily so that she can grow up and tell us all: That the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true!
