Author's Review
I saw The Little Mermaid when I was a pre teen years back. I loved that movie and bought it for my daughter last year when I saw it at Walmart. I just recently found out there was a second one called Little Mermaid II, The: Return to the Sea. I guess it has been out a while now. But I just never knew it was out there. I was thrilled when I saw it at K-Mart. It cost 15.00 and I bought it before I even read the back of the box to see what it was about. Never doubt a Disney movie. They are all good. I knew I would not regret making the purchase. I also knew my daughter would adore it.
I was right about that. The moment I popped in the tape she was glued to the screen and she wouldn't even turn when you talked to her. She loves the Little Mermaid II, The: Return to the Sea so much that she makes me put it on for her 3 to 4 times per week now. Some times she even watches it twice in one day. Okay, Okay I admit it. I watch it with her. It's one of those things I just can't help. I love Disney movies and Ariel is my favorite.
For those of you who don't remember or just have never watched it. The original Little Mermaid was all about Ariel and ow she wanted to be human so she could see what it was like to live on land. All her life she collected things from land that had fallen into the sea. She met up with a Prince who fell off a boat. His name was Eric and they fell in love. Ursella the evil sea witch tried to destroy them and Ariel's father the king of the sea. They defeated her, and Ariel and Eric had gotten married. Ariel's father King Tritan made her human so she could be with Eric forever.
That is how the first one ended. It was a great movie. The second one is like a continuation of the first only it starts a little later.
It begins by showing Ariel holding a baby. Yes, she and Prince Eric had a daughter and named her Melody. She is cute, has dark wavy hair and looks like both Prince Eric and Ariel.
King Tritan, Ariel's friends Flounder and Sabastian and many creatures and merfolk from the sea come to see the baby and celebrate her birth with Ariel. This is an important day because it is also the day Melody is introduced to the sea for the first time. Of course Ariel and Eric's castle is right on the sea.
While they are celebrating, Ursula's sister Organa shows up. She is just as evil as her sister was if not worse, and she too is a slimy ugly octopus. She tries to steal Melody and black mail King Tritan out of his magic tritant, which is a giant fork if you ask me. She then tries to feed Melody to a shark called Undertoe.
The king shrinks Undertoe no bigger than Flounder. Undertoe and Organa go into hiding in the coldest cave inside of the sea for years.
In the mean time, Ariel insists that they should keep Melody out of the sea. She desided in fear that her daughter will be in danger, that Melody must never know about mer folk, or Atlantica which is where her Father lives. Ironicly a few feet from the Castle.
Ariel then says goodbye to her friends as well as her father, and says she is sorry. As long as Organa is out there free. She will never know her daughter can be safe.
Years pass and Melody becomes a teenager. On her 13th birthday she ventures into the sea. You see, Ariel had a wall built around the castle that had bars on the bottom of it to let some water through the front of the castle. She built the wall to keep Organa out, but Melody thinks it is there to keep her in. She sneaks through the bars and into the sea before heading to her party.
Melody finds a locket. The locket her grandfather gave to her that day long ago, she doesn't know that yet though. She tells Sabastian who was sent to watch over her as she grows, that she loves the sea and her mother doesn't understand her.
Eventualy Ariel finds out Melody was in the sea and gets very angry. They argue and Melody says that she has never been in the sea so how can she say it is dangerous. Little does she know her mother used to be a mermaid long ago.
Melody runs away from home, Sabastian tries to stop her but can't. He tells her parents and then goes to get King Tritan for help.
The entire sea is on a search party for Melody. But Melody has been lured in by Organa, and she has Melody convinced that her mother lied to her. That she would be better if she were a mermaid and would finaly fit in when she couldn't before.
Thats all I will tell you besides the fact that Melody will meet friends who help her a long her way. Her mother will become a mermaid again to search for her. She will reunite with old friends and they also will help her.
The Little Mermaid II, The: Return to the Sea is a great movie for kids of all ages, and adults too in my case. We love it. Infact we watched it earlier today before my daughter went to bed. Thats what gave me the idea to write a review about it. If you have the first one, you just have to get the second one. And you will be sure to like it just as much if not more. It is good to see where Ariel went in her life after the first movie. Makes me wonder if there will ever be a third one. They should make one. I would buy it LOL.
The sound, music, picture, action scenes, and everything are great. This movie could not be better. I insist on that. I do very highly recommend it.
