Author's Review
Was there ever any doubt? This film is wonderful family entertainment!
We find Ariel, and Prince Eric in their palace, and their teen-age daughter, Melody. Now this child is a sort of prisoner in her own home, because Mom and Dad, trying to protect her, have built a wall completely around this place!
Being awestruck by the sea, but not understanding why, Melody finds her way out. She feels at home in the sea. Her life on land has not been so easy. She feels alone and unaccepted by her peers, and the sea is a comfort to her.
Of course, she has Sebastian and Flounder to keep her company! Anyway, she gets herself into a mess with Morgana, this film's version of Ursula.
Morgana is Ursula's sister, and wants to do what her sister couldn't and rule the sea!
She tries to take advantage of Melody's craving to be a mermaid, and succeeds for a time, but, as always, good triumphs in the end!
The message in this film, if you choose to look for it, is that parents should not 'fence in' their kids. Sure, they're going to make mistakes, but a strong family base will overcome all.
This movie is a must see for children and adults alike. It brings home, in a very timely manner, that we really can all get along, with a little effort, understanding, and a lot of prayer!
