Product Review

Lite-On LVC-9016G DVD/VCR combo

by   rexster314 ,   Sep 11, 2006

Pros:  Good quality, good value, easy to use

Cons:  None noticed at this time

The Bottom Line:  Not a professional model, but certainly worth the money, and for all around usage. Recommended for all but the high end (expensive)user

Overall Rating: 4/5 stars

Author's Review

I bought a Sony DVD recorder/VCR combo last year. As I recall, it was around 300$. For the last several months, it was a hit or miss when I tried to burn anything coming from my TIVO box. Most of the time I would end up with coasters. I finally said ENOUGH! and started looking for a replacement. The one major requirement I had was for a DV input so I could burn dvd's from my digital video camera. A lot of the combo recorders do not have this feature. Other requirements were digital audio output, component video output, and progressive scan feature. As luck would have it I was at a Costco over the weekend and found this Lite-On combo recorder. It had all the features mentioned above at a price (189.00) that I could live with. I also know that if I'm unhappy with the unit, I can return it to Costco with no questions asked.
Having almost the same connections, this Lite-On unit was almost a plug and play installation, since all the cables necessary were already plugged into their related boxes (tv, receiver, input.
Now, down to the details. I have burned several dvd's now, using the standard dvd record setting of 2 hours, and the results are very good, even better than the ones burned with the more expensive Sony. Output is sharper and colors aren't nearly as blurry. There's no way I can objectively measure the output, but to my eyes there is a big difference. The remote is more user friendly on the Lite-On than the Sony.
I will update this report in a couple of weeks.
