i actually traded in my avalon on the town car
Pros:
lots of room, elegant body design
Cons:
hard to park, short on technology
The Bottom Line:
i traded in a 2000 toyota avalon, and so far i'm happy. retro looks, modern mechanicals, a superb highway cruiser. what's not to like?

yep . . i know it sounds crazy. but i actually traded in my 2000 toyota avalon xls on a 2003 lincoln town car. here's why:
the avalon has "almost" as much leg room as the town car, but is 4 inches narrower between the doors. it's easier to seat 3 people in the rear.
the town car has the same highway mileage rating as the avalon - 25 MPG, on regular 87 octane.
the town car has traction control standard. it does about as well in the snow as my front wheel drive, no traction control avalon.
the trunk is huge. huge i tell you. how huge is it? i have about $500 worth of christmas presents hiding in the trunk, and it's not half full yet (22 cubic feet of room)
it has good tires - michelin energy, on 17 inch wheels
i got a great deal - $33,900 (listed for $41,145). this is the "executive" (base) model. the "signature" and "cartier" models are much higher.
what you do get on the base model:
dual climate control
traction control
4 wheel abs brakes
same engine and transmission as the other models
power seats
am/fm/cd/cassette player
leather seating, faux wood trim
electronically defrosted side mirrors (its parked outside)
what you don't get:
navigation computer
heated seats
sunroof
probably some other stuff i didn't care about either, although for the first 5 minutes of each commute the heated seats would have been nice. do they warm up that quickly though?
my (few) gripes:
parking is a chore, especially at crowded christmastime
no tachometer, no oil pressure gauge
brakes seem "soft", although the 140 foot 60-0 stopping time cited in tests is average.
