Perfect for students
Date of Review: Mar 16, 2007
The Bottom Line: If you print lots of grayscale and text jobs for school or work, get this printer. If you want higher end features or networking, look elsewhere or purchase the e250dn.
This printer is perfect for a small home office or a student. I purchased because as a student, I must print essays, readings, articles, and other grayscale print jobs constantly. Upon recieving the printer, I installed the software, attached my own USB cable to the printer and to my Powerbook G4, and was up and printing within just a few minutes. The quality of text is excellent, and graphics appear with only minor banding in the case of photos. Print speeds are excellent; a 99 page document printed in 6 minutes with duplexing enabled. With some cheaper printers, the paper will curl. not so with the e250d. The paper remains crisp and flat. CNET estimates the price per page as 3.8 cents for the e250d, but if you look online you can find the toner cartridge for much less than the MSRP. The printer does not include any LCD status display, but does include status lights. A printout report will tell you any other information you need to know. The only downside of the printer is that it is constructed rather poorly and the casing design is bland. The paper try does not move smoothly. These minor details, however, are nitpicky for a printer that offers such great features for such a low price. As a student, the duplexing feature and value beat printing things at school any day!
