To Ink What Huge SUV's Are To Gasoline

Date of Review: May 14, 2008

The Bottom Line:  This printer's an ink hog - avoid it like the plague.
I bought this printer because I was looking for a top-load printer but couldn't afford (or so I thought) a decent Epson. The features looked good, and the price couldn't be beat. As others have said, this should have been my first clue...

As it turns out, all of the extra features (scanner, copier, etc) are well-worth the price. The only problem: I'll have to take a second job just to keep up with the cost of ink. In the first month alone, I put enough money into ink refills for this thing to buy a decent Epson AND a set of refills for it. (More than I would have actually had to buy in the first month if I had bought an Epson to begin with, I might add.) On average, I'm getting about 30 color pages and 50 BW pages on a set of cartridges. (?!)

Aside from that (huge) problem, this printer is basically what you'd expect from a low-cost printer. It's no Epson by a long shot, but it's adequate for every day printing needs.

The upshot: Unless you want to keep flushing money away on refills, I'd recommend you stay away from the Lexmark 2500.
