Author's Review
I picked this printer up a few days ago. It is a very sleek and small printer, but has a lot of nice features. Other than being a standard printer, it also as an 8" x 11" scanner on top of the unit. I have scanned both documents and pictures on to my computer with no problem. The power supply is very small, and is actually a removable piece on the back of the printer itself, and has just a standard 2 prong AC plug that goes into the outlet! This is very nice if you have a surge protector with not a lot of room left on it!
One thing about the copy function. I have noticed that a lot of the time, you need to have this unit hooked into your computer for the copy function to work. If you need a all-in-one machine that works as a stand alone copier, the X1270 may not be a right fit for you.
WINDOWS VISTA USERS - PLEASE READ!
If you are going to be hooking this machine up to a computer that is running any version of Windows Vista, DO NOT USE THE CD THAT CAME WITH THE PRINTER! The drivers that came on the CD work well with previous versions of Windows (XP, 2000, etc). To get this to work with Windows Vista (and save yourself a lot of headaches in the process!), I recommend downloading the latest driver release from Lexmark, found here http://downloads.lexmark.com/static/229-1-0-537.html
If you are going to be installing this on a Vista Machine, do not hook the USB cable up to the computer until you have this file downloaded. Run the install program, and follow the prompts! In no time, you'll be enjoying a very cost-wise, proficient all-in-one machine!
