I've been making my way through the
Laura Geller line of cosmetics. I bought the
Baked To Perfection makeup collection, which includes six products, including four "baked" products, which start out as liquids and are baked into solid powder compacts. One of these products is
Ethereal Rose Baked Powder - I absolutely love this product!
Product Details:
Laura Geller Ethereal Rose Baked Powder is a pale pink, swirled solid powder compact that is domed on top. It comes in a round, black plastic compact that has a clear window on the lid (so you can see the product inside) and a mirror on the inside of the lid.
The powder itself has matte, pearly and almost metallic pink shades all swirled into the one powder.
There is .32 oz. of powder in each compact.
From the packaging that came with this product (and the kit):
Swirls of liquid pink and pearls impart a veil of radiance to every face. Fluff it over your whole face. Or simply stroke it wherever you'd like a rosy hue. Either way, the result is skin with a fresh, dewy glow.
Directions for use (also taken from packaging):
Apply by stroking a powder brush across the powder dome and smoothing it on top of Spackle Under Make-up Primer or foundation.
Ingredients (taken from packaging):
Mica, talc, mineral oil, nylon-12, dimethicone, polysorbate 20, glyceryl ethylhexanoate/stearate/adipate, magnesium aluminum silicate, polyacrylamide, C13-14 isoparaffin, laureth 7, octyldodecyl stearoyl stearate, isopropyl myristate, sorbitan stearate, sodium dehydroacetate, phenoxyethanol, corn starch, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, methylparaben, cetearyl ethylhexanoate, lauroyl lysine, tocopheryl acetate, jojoba seed oil, ethylparaben, propylparaben, imidazolidinyl urea, butylparaben, BHT, titanium dioxide, iron oxides, ultramarines, red 7 lake, manganese violet, carmine.
My Experience:
At first, I was a bit taken aback by the swirls of almost metallic pink powder in my
Ethereal Rose Baked Powder. At my age, I really don't want a lot of shimmer or glimmer on my face on a daily basis. I
do, however, want my skin to look like it glows. After all, who doesn't want their skin to look healthy and radiant?
I was very pleased to find out upon using this product for the first time that
Ethereal Rose Baked Powder is not too shimmery or glimmery at all. It's a bit like
Bare Escentuals Clear Radiance Powder in that it's a pale pink shade and will add a dewy glow to the face. The difference between the two is that
Clear Radiance is a loose powder and
Ethereal Rose Baked Powder is a solid powder. I like the convenience and less mess of a solid powder!
This product is really easy to use. The directions say that this can be applied to the face over foundation or over the
Spackle product, which is a makeup primer. Since I wear foundation, of course I apply it over my foundation. I first apply my foundation, then
Laura Geller Balance 'N Brighten Powder. I then sweep my fluffy face powder brush across the dome of the
Ethereal Rose Baked Powder and sweep it all over my face. I'm fairly pale, but I'm not super pale and I'm definitely not porcelain. I don't think that someone with porcelain or really pale skin will have a problem using this product generously. I use it pretty generously myself, and find that my skin looks dewy and glowing after just a few sweeps of the brush all over my face. If you have darker skin, try this product on your hand before buying, as it might be too light for you - although I wouldn't be surprised if it works well on darker skin as well.
I love how this product contains a hint of shimmer of pearl but it doesn't translate into a shiny face for me. My face just looks a bit dewy and a bit glowing. That's all I ask for in a finishing powder like this!
I'm not sure that
Ethereal Rose Baked Powder helps with oil absorption, but I also don't think it adds to any oil problem. This is more of a makeup product and definitely not a skincare product that should be used as your only face powder. If you rely on a powder to help absorb oil, use your normal face powder under this product.
If you are a bit shy about applying a product to your skin that adds a bit of glow, start small by using
Ethereal Rose Baked Powder in just a few places on your face instead of the entire face. This product makes an excellent blush highlighter and would also be good for a hint of glow on the shoulders and decollete area for evenings out. It will never really look too shimmery or glittery, as it's just not that much of a shimmery product to start with. I guess if you added layer upon layer of this product onto your skin, it would look like a bit too much and would look too pink. So my advice is to start with one application of this product and go from there. If you like a bit more "glow", apply it with a heavier hand.
Overall, this is a really nice product. I love how it makes my skin look and I love how easy it is to use.
One word of caution with all of the
Baked items in the
Laura Geller makeup collection: be careful that you don't drop any of the compacts. They seem to be pretty fragile. I dropped one of them and the powder dome crumbled all over the inside of the compact and I had a mess when I opened the lid.
Price and Purchasing Information:
Laura Geller Ethereal Rose Baked Powder doesn't appear to be for sale at this time by itself but it can be found in the
