Great, reliable heat....we love it!
Pros:
Warm, reliable heat; remote control; great design
Cons:
More expensive than most ceramic heaters ($70)
The Bottom Line:
While this particular model is no longer available, the redesigned model (#5840) is just as reliable and stylish. The remote control and digital temperature display are great pluses!

Author's Review
We live in an older home, which we really love, but every winter we really hate those ever-increasing gas heating bills. So 3 years ago we began to assemble a collection of heaters, one for each room, in order to better regulate the indoor temperature of our home, as well as to give our heater a much needed break. We began by purchasing a convection heater, which works well for our small bedroom, but for our much larger living room, we decided to go with Lasko's Cyclonic Ceramic Heater (Model 6000, but it looks exactly like the 5800) which we located at our local Sam's (at the time, Wal-Mart was carrying a similar model in silver but without the remote control.)
From the very beginning, we loved it! The heat it produces feels great, especially when you're needing a quick warm up. There is a movable grill at the top which allows you to direct the heated air where it will benefit you the most...in our case, we have high ceilings with a drop down ceiling fan, so we found that aiming the heat towards the fan helps to spread the warmth quite efficiently. We found the remote control to be extremely helpful, as it allows us to quickly change the temp up and down with ease, and the digital temperature display is a really nice plus.
We loved this heater so much that we subsequently purchased 2 more over the past 2 years--another black model and the newly redesigned version in 2007. We have found that by placing these heaters in certain areas it gives us a bigger heating bang for our buck (in the living room, it resides under the front window in order to heat any incoming cold air and in the kitchen it is located on 2 separate walls, one near the back door). It is fairly quiet and so far we've had no maintenance or warranty problems (unlike the Lasko oscillating ceramic heater, which died after only 2 years--but that is another review).
As for the heater's design, I realize that it is quite unconventional, but it really fits our older home...reminds me of a radiator, without being ugly or cumbersome. It is easily moved from room to room, and when winter is over, it is easily stored in its box until next winter. As for any complaints about this unit tipping over, we have never had this problem, but we don't have indoor pets or children who might prompt a tipover. If I did, I'm not sure this would be the most appropriate model of heater...but then, most heaters might very well end up being inappropriate, too.
