Want to learn how to make your own jewelry? Give Lapidary Journal a shot-- each issue features several easy-to-follow projects for beginners and intermediate jewelers. The directions are concise, and are illustrated by a number of diagrams and photographs. It's a good resource for those of us who don't have any instructors in the local area. <g>
Generally Lapidary Journal features projects on beadwork, stone setting, metal finishing techniques (chasing, repousse, engraving, etching, etc.), and the construction of rings, necklaces, bracelets, and chains. There is also a wealth of information on stone finishing and faceting. Lapidary Journal also covers materials such as polymer clay and precious metal clay. It's unfortunate that jewelers' tools are so expensive.
There is also an extensive jewelry show listing, broken down by date. You won't find better prices on gemstones, cabbed, faceted, or rough, outside of a jewelry trade show. The advertisements (lots of them) are actually quite useful for price comparisons.
Sample projects and show listings from previous issues are available online at the Lapidary Journal website: http://www.lapidaryjournal.com/
