This sub makes great bass for the money
Date of Review: Mar 31, 2007
The Bottom Line: If you're looking for good bass on a very tight budget this is the one to get.
I bought two 12" Lanzar MAX to use in my car as a temporary setup during winter, I didn't want to spend much money and Lanzar's price was the cheapest on eBay. I used a prefab OBCON slot-ported dual 12" subwoofer enclosure for the subs as I don't have the time to build it specifically for these subs. I used a Viper 600.1 mono amplifier that produces 600 watts at 1 ohm but since the subs I have were single 4 ohm coil I was only able to extract 300 watts from the amplifier. The result was a lot more than I anticipated...plenty of deep bass but not sloppy, it also packs a punch for rock and heavy metal. I was able to rattle loose my rear deck and make the tip of my nose itch, all with 300 watts and two cheap 12" subs! These subs doesn't produce subsonic bass(it starts to drop in volume under 28Hz) like the most expensive subs but I must say I'm impressed by its ability to get loud with relatively low power. To give you an idea, these two 12" subs were louder than the four 10" Kicker Comp series setup I had last winter that was wired into 1 ohm, so the Lanzars were louder and more efficient.
However, after about three months of normal use the sub starts to make a distinct rattle, I took the sub out and found the magnet under the plastic cover has pulled itself just a tad bit from the metal basket, so the sub rattles whenever the bass hits. I used Gorilla Glue to secure the magnet and the basket all around, the rattle went away and it has been working as usual ever since.
