Memories for a lifetime
Date of Review: Feb 3, 2000
The year was 1995. I had my first car, and I was about to install my first stereo. There were a lot of brands available at the time, most notibly Pyramid, Pyle, Pioneer, among a few others. After doing some listening to friends systems, among frequent trips to the audio store, I chose Lanzar.
On that fateful day, I laid down $350 in cash plus a few cents for tax, and walked out with the amplifier that I still hear in my dreams and every time I listen to another's stereo. The Lanzar Opti 150 (now called an Opti 2150, with a black case instead of my powdercoat blue), at 75x2 into 4 ohms, was a powerhouse when coupled up to a pair of Lanzar Pro 12's in a sealed box. At 4 ohms bridged, the amp pushed out 330+ Watts RMS and still had room to go. Talk about head room. It was nice being able to tune the system and then play a Hard hitting CD and still have it amaze you. It took a large amount of negligence to make this amp distort. And best of all, it stayed cool. The case was never more than warm to the touch, even after hours of continuous playing.
I have owned this amp for the past 5 years, and had to part with it recently due to an addition to the family and the need of additional trunk space. But I am not complaining. I will always have these memories to cherish.
One of the best feelings you can have is when everyone asks you about your system, and then stare in amazement at how simple it is.
I highly recommend the new Opti 2150 (or even an Opti 150 if you can find one), or any of the other Lanzar Opti Drive amp's. Still one of the best around.
