Author's Review
Two lovers, cursed by an jealous bishop so that neither may see each other in human form, but for a split second in the moments between day and night...
By day, Etienne Navarre is a man. By night, he is a wolf, unaware of his human half-life. His love, Isabelle, is woman by night. By day, she is a hawk and companion of Navarre, although she is unaware of her own human half-life.
A thief escapes from the dungeons of Aguilar and runs into the forrest, where through a series of events, is confronted by Navarre. The knight, Navarre, finds a usefulness in this thief, Gaston, because Gaston knows his way around the underbelly of the city where the Bishop lives.
Bent on ending his curse and killing the bishop, Navarre, Gaston, and hawk (Isabelle), go on a quest to return to the city and put an end to their suffering. However, ending the curse is not so easy. If the bishop is killed, the curse will remain forever.
But there is hope...
"So long as there is day and night, Navarre and Isabelle will never see each other in the flesh." With the help of the monk who had accidentaly betrayed them in a drunken state, the Knight and company find a loophole in the curse, so to speak, and the rest is history.
LadyHawke stars Matthew Broderick as Gaston, the Thief, Michelle Pfieffer as Isabelle, the Ladyhawke, and Rutger Hauer as Navarre, the wolf. Directed by Richard Donner (Lethal Weapon series, Goonies, and a bunch more), and shot by a 2-time Oscar-winning cinematographer, this film is beautiful. The sound is excellent and the costumes very well done.
LadyHawke is as much of a fantasy adventure as it is a love story. There is very little blood, no profanity or nudity, and is suitable for all ages. This film is a classic!
