Product Review

Very nice unit

by   ezman ,   Sep 22, 2004

Pros:  Very Quiet for bedroom operation and blows air upward not across the room

Cons:  Very poor cardboard container construction, Retail price 25% higher than other brands

The Bottom Line:  Quiet operation, nice styling, good energy efficiency. Quality is much better than other imports.

Overall Rating: 5/5 stars

Purchased from Lowes 9/04 their regular price was $189 but it was discounted at clearance for $144.. This air conditioner is great in the bedroom for a comfortable quiet sleep. The unit was not very heavy to carry for installation which was a plus.
Lowes had these air conditioners stacked on a skid and I went to lift the box on to my cart, disaster struck. The box is made so when you cut off the plastic straps, the box slips off a cardboard tray that the air conditioner sits in. This way you don't have to pull the unit out of the box but off the tray for easier lifting. I picked up the box which had cut out handles in both sides for lifting. As I turned off the skid toward my cart, the plastic bands snapped off and the bottom tray fell with the air conditioner to the floor. I was left holding an empty box when a lady yelled out "your box broke" and a store associate stood with his mouth open in shock. Just missed crushing my toes by about 3 inches. The air conditioner was cracked on the top left side but overall it was pretty much in once piece. As to whether it was operational, I don't know. Pretty good construction but a dangerous box to handle if you didn't know this was going to happen. Looks like the plastic straps were not bonded very good so watch out for your toes if you use the box handles to lift. I recommend you pick it up by the bottom with some help by a store associate. I give the air conditioner a thumbs up for quality and thumbs down for the cardboard box.
