We pd $1918.13 for this piece of junk!
Pros:
Well-lit interiors; adjustable door shelves; spacious veggie drawers; big deli drawer.
Cons:
Flawed ice maker design; glass shelves subject to thermal shock; unstable interior temp.
The Bottom Line:
I feel it's poorly engineered on every level. But, if you have an extra bag of cash & lots of time to deal with the defects, then buy one!

Even though this unit is attractive & has all the features we were looking for, it hasn't cooled properly since we bought it 4 months ago. We cannot safely store food in it!
The repair tech has made 4 house calls & has replaced nearly every electronic unit in this refrigerator, + added more coolant. He's even gotten LG techs on the phone while he's been working on this unit. It seems to have everyone stumped! We've monitored the interior temp of the fridge (with a digital thermometer provided by the appliance tech) at various times throughout the days, & it varies greatly, always being between 4 & 11 degrees warmer than the fridge is set for. We've lost food in the fridge due to the vacillation of interior temps. (We might as well leave the mayo outside in the sun -- it has the same effect as being refrigerated in this unit!) Thank God we kept our old refrigerator! It's not very big & it's inconvenient, but at least it cools!
This unit has a digital thermostat with temp settings ranging from 32 to 40 degrees for the fridge temp, and +8 to -6 for the freezer. However, even the digital readout is defective! It's totally lacking a #33-degree setting & numbers 7 & -5 for the freezer! Furthermore, if you lower the freezer temperature, the fridge temp will rise!
The ice maker set-up should have had more thought before it was put in this unit. Every time you pull out the drawer to get ice cubes, the ice maker dumps cubes, which slide out of the freezer bottom onto the floor. Plus, this ice maker tends to dump ice before the cubes are totally frozen. A thin shell of ice is full of water. When the unfrozen cubes hit the bin, they break & we end up with a frozen blob in the ice bin. There's no point in having an ice maker if we need to use the ice pick! But, once again, if we lower the freezer temp so the ice freezes completely, then the fridge temp rises!
I question the logic in putting glass shelves in a refrigerator. They tend to block the flow of air, compared to coated wire shelves. Plus, they are subject to thermal shock. But, what do I know -- I'M ONLY THE CONSUMER!! I feel each refrigerator manufacturer should offer the option of coated wire shelves, just like they offer the option of exterior colors & finishes.
Even though the appliance repair company has recommended to LG that LG replace this unit or refund, LG isn't responding.
We purchased it at Home Depot, and will now try to get a refund from them. We will go to the state Attorney General's Office, & the TV Action Line if necessary. We have acted in good faith & have been more than patient with LG. Enough is enough!
There's no excuse for any company to treat it's customers like this, but, they have our money, so they don't care! I strongly feel they are dragging their feet until the warranty runs out, then they won't have to do anything!
Surely there must be better products on the market for this kind of money! LG should pay US for all we've been through with this refrigerator!
UPDATE - Feb. 26, '08
After having monitored the internal temp in our refrigerator for a number of days at random times (as suggested by the LG repair tech), I faxed the log to the tech, who then faxed it to LG.
Today I received a phone call from the tech saying both he & LG agreed that our refrigerator is opened way too many times each day! Since we can't keep food in this unit because it doesn't cool properly, the only time this unit has been opened is 4-6 times (to monitor the internal temp) during any 24 hours! The tech said the actual temp will NEVER be the same as the temp setting -- it will ALWAYS be at least 4 degrees off! His explanation for an 11 degree difference in temp for an entire 24-hr. period -- it was in defrost mode!!
He said this unit will not cool efficiently if it is opened 4-6 times per day (he told me to check the temp randomly, & I don't feel every 4-6 hours is excessive!), and that now we should only open it 2 times during a 24-hr. period to check the temp! In other words, if I don't like the internal temperature, stop checking it!!
IN WHAT UNIVERSE IS LG LIVING THAT THEY WOULD DESIGN A REFRIGERATOR THAT WILL ONLY COOL PROPERLY IF IT IS ONLY OPEN 2 TIMES A DAY????
Does this mean that if I am a diabetic who needs to refrigerate my insulin that I must buy a separate unit to store it in so I can have access to it when needed????
And what happened to 3 meals a day? Where is one supposed to store the food if it can't be retrieved from the refrigerator????
Obviously, this unit was designed for 1st time buyers who live off fast food and never open their refrigerator doors!
The tech now advises us to put the thermometer in a particular hole in the freezer & monitor the temp that way.
Tomorrow, we are going to see the manager of Home Depot to try to get our money back on this unit. LG obviously has no intention of fixing it, or it would have been fixed!
Twice in 24 hours???? Really.............!!!!!!
We would have been better off if we'd have purchased an ice cooler!
More updates to come..........
UPDATE -- Feb. 27, '08
Home Depot informed us that customers are having trouble with the LG company & the units. In fact, this unit is now $400 less than it was 16 weeks ago! Seems parts are unavailable, service techs are not knowledgeable, stateside engineers are not helpful, customer service is non-existent.
Home Depot agreed to refund on this unit. Since we need to replace this unit with another, we are going to wait until the latest GE & Maytag models come out before we make any further decisions. Additionally, I have contacted both companies to see if their warranties are as represented by the H Depot sales people. We can't afford to get burnt again on an expensive purchase!
I'll post again when this transaction is complete.
UPDDATE -- May 8, 08
On March 13, 08, we received a full refund from Home Depot for this unit. We were going to wait to see what the latest Maytag models were like before we got a refund, but when I emailed Maytag about some of the questionable aspects of their warranty, Maytag said we had received incorrect information from Home Depot. Needless to say, we won't be making any more major purchases from Home Depot in the way of appliances.
I'm glad I kept copious notes in support of our claim regarding our LG experience, which were presented to the Home Depot manager. I'm sure it helped in the refund process. Home Depot made it right with us.
One last note: When the delivery crew came to pick up this fridge, they weren't at all surprised to see it was "Another LG!"
Buyer beware!!!!!!!
