the prettiest thangs/ LG washer and dryer, front loading

I couldÕve bought white ones, but the LG TROMM red washer and dryer look like they have improm metal flake red paint and made me think they also had a V8 Hemi and a four on the floor on them. (You can prolly tell I was a teenager in the 60s...lol) I looked at Sears front loaders and others, but the large size of tub on the LG washer and the sort of amazing differences between the LG set and my old 1970s harvest gold washer and dryer, which still work fine, I should add, but the washing machine tub began recently to chip its porcelain and cut some of my knits...

I have not run the new machines yet other than the service men running them through a few tests... which incidentally, you could mistake these as one arm Vegas bandits when they light up all their dials and sensors. I will write more when I actually wash things. I have whites that are dim instead of bright white. I have delicates that need gentle washing without being snagged, I have poly and lycra knit skirts, and tops, that need to not come out squish-wrinkled, (they have to be fluffed for a minute in dryer after washing, then hung on hangers to dry.) I have nasty dirty rags from cleaning and auto mechanic (I'll try sanitary cycle on those). I have a down comforter to wash. And endless colored towels. So, stayed tuned. I have to get some HE detergent. I wonder if they make SHE detergent too. JUST kidding. PS I did not buy pedestals. I can bend over just fine to save $500. Besides my laundry room is only 60" wide and 8 feet long and putting the LGs on pedestals would feel like putting two bulldogs in a mason jar.

Ok, here's the update one day later after seamless installation, with just a bit of time needed to adjust/level one front leg as floor slopes there for a floor drain. (wrench to adjust comes with)(both washer and dryer must be leveled. use a spirit level. We have tile over concrete floor.) I ran three loads today. This is a boss washer and dryer.

First, white rags so dirty they looked brown. Ran on 'sanitary cycle' with 'prewash'; I used Tide HE and Fabric softener. Easy to use dispensers that are in a pull out drawer on left of washer. I am left handed so a little awkward because washer is right next to wall, so have to use right hand to pour. It's ok.

You press the Power button to turn it on, then dial for what kind of fabric and bulk, what degree of soil, and then the washer chooses the water level, temp of water and length of cycle. You can override this and choose whatever length and wash/rinse tem and spin speed you would like. Then you press Start button. Head's up: sanitary cycle with pre-rinse, with full load tub takes 2 hours. BUT, the towels came out pure white, I mean so clean and fluffy. I'd heard front loaders did an amazing job, but you know what, it is super-amazing. I have lived a long time, and seen many claims for the newest wonder diet, drug, machinery, that did not pan out. This LG front loader not only pans out, like a good soul, it fulfills its promises.

I did two other loads, one of bath sheets (BIG towels and heavy), and one of about 10 knit skirts and jackets. Perfect. Everything. And washer so incredibly quiet throughout with exception of a couple clicks at beginning as washer goes on, and sound of water turning on and off. It has a cool feature of having a light on in the tub until you start the machine, so you can see what's in there easily.

Dials on washer are smoothly tooled, turn effortlessly, are quality weight and gauge metal. Spin is quiet and smooth. The 'finished' bell which you can program from 'off' to 'least' through several stops to 'most'... cannot be heard a floor away with the TV on. But, on the same floor with reasonable family noise it can. I just use an egg timer wherever I happen to be, just like before. Clothes incidentally, amazingly unwrinkled and quite 'dry' even though still wet, unlike my old top loader where clothes always wrapped around post and pretty wet when cycle done.

Dials on dryer, the same, well designed, easy to understand, huge stainless steel bin, easy to clean filter right up front at door lip. Dryer also very silent, just the sound occasionally of a clump of wet clothes dropping from the top to bottom at beginning. The dryer can run by amount of time you designate, can be air dried, can be dried at various fabric settings from delicate heat to heavy duty heat for things like rugs and towels. The dryer also can be set to dry very dry, normal dry, slightly damp, and etc.

The doors of both appliances fit solidly and have that 'good car door' sound when you close them. They are substantial without being unduly heavy so as to strain their hinges.

I noticed that there is one teeny dot of paint that chipped when servicemen brought the machines in. It is the size of a pin point on the side of the washer. It would be nice to have a little bottle like they used to give with refrigerators, that matched the bright cherry red color for touchup.

It is very cold outside here, and I noticed the dryer and washer did not make the windows steam up like my old equipment did. The washer stays cool to outside touch throughout, as does the dryer. Home depot requires you purchase a new electrical cord and a new dryer vent for these machines. The couplings are tight and do not leak.

I did have an electrician/ plumber guy check out all faucets and electricity and water pressure before I bought these, so I knew all connections worked efficiently.

I am pleased beyond pleased. At first I couldnÕt figure out how long each wash cycle would be in advance, and looked in the instruction book, but nada. Then I realized right on the control panel, as you turn dial, it gives an LED readout of not only how long each combo cycle is, but also, once you start the machine, the same LED tells you how many minutes are left till the wash cycle is completed.

The only other thing that threw me at first was that the washing machine is so quiet and uses so little water that I peered and peered into the tub through the glass door thinking nothing was happening even though the clothes were going round. But plenty was happening. I couldnÕt be happier. So far, so good. This cherry red model is WM2487H; in the little drawer is also an area for bleach if you use it. I am not sure how to use bleach without ruining things, so I dont use it. Anyone who wants to tell this grandmother of 5 how to use bleach, I am ever ready to learn. Thank you!

Hi, this is an update, now many weeks later after first bringing this classic car, I mean washer and dryer into my house; it still remains a joy to look at and to use.
DRYER: However, I notice that the dryer (which is red and matches and was installed at the same time) leaves towels, hose etc dry but damp 'in spots' even when I turn dryer dial to "very dry". I find that it will dry better through and through on the timed dry cycle... 60 minutes for instance.

WASHER: Head's up: I do wipe the inner dryer glass and the rubber seal after washing and leave the washer door open while I dry each load, giving it an hour or so to air dry as well. I dont think it would mildew, but if you dont do laundry every day or at least once a week, not wiping it out, might ... because it is dark in there and dampness... well, you can imagine. There is one other small item, when tub first fills it turns water on and off, and the pipes in the wall rattle, for the shut offs are abrupt. I dont want to open wall and pin those long copper pipes down further, but I do hear the tremor of the pipes suddenly being cold-cocked.

Would I buy them both again. WIthout question. Would I do anything differently? No. Would I wish for anything else? Yes, a LOUD buzzer for each, and also more info from salespersons about drying washer's glass window and rubber rim after cycles before shutting door.

Do I wish I had gotten pedestals? Maybe, but bending is good for me even though I'm many times over a grandmother, and its ok. What I need more so in tiny laundry room is a counter for folding dried clothes, and a clothes rack to hang things to drip dry.
