Great Display, Bad WiFi and Customer Support
Date of Review: Nov 28, 2007
The Bottom Line: I would avoid this unit if you are interested in the Wifi capabilities. The configuration process is awkward, but the picture quality is great.
When I purchased this frame, I thought I would be able to sit at my computer and just transfer images to the frame. Wrong! Instead, you have to create photo playlists in Windows Media Player 11.(not 10 or earlier) Images are not WMP's forte. There is no thumbnail preview so you are compiling a list of file names. Then you have to create a link between WMP and the frame. All very awkward.
Setting up the WiFi is even more difficult. All text entries in the configuration process have to be input using a screen keyboard with each letter selected by moving a cursor on the keyboard with the enclosed handheld remote. If you have a WEP secured WiFi network, entering the WEP key is really time consuming. In my case, I entered it many, many times as the link was VERY difficult to establish. I tried Kodak's Chat service. After about 15 minutes, the tech gave me a phone number to call. After 30 minutes on the phone, that tech wanted me to test it with someone else's WiFi router(I had to re-enter all that configuration data again!). I tried multiple requests for email support and only received the automated response "We will contact you within 24 hours." although they never did.
Finally I took it back to Best Buy and got a new one. Yes, that's right. I entered all the config data again! This time the WiFi link works, albeit intermittently.
The EX1011 works great with the memory card or its 128 meg of internal memory. If you want to stick with Kodak(not recommended), you can save some money and a lot of trouble by getting a non WiFi frame.
