FIRE HAZARD. I’m a Professional Firefighter of 18 years and work in the Bay Area. The following is the email I sent to LG Electronics, INC.

Greetings. I came home today and smelled an electrical odor from my refrigerator. The lights in the refrigerator were not turning off when the doors were closed. I verified by placing a video camera inside and by manually holding both door switches. The smell was from the bulbs overheating and melting the light cover and plastic housing for the temperature control panel. I’m a Fireman, and must say, I have not been to a refrigerator fire yet! Any suggestions on what direction to take for repairs? Purchased November 2006. Model LFC21760ST. Thank you.

The overheating had caused extensive damage to the plastic housing, metal assembly, burned light bulb attachments and off-gassed an odor of heated petroleum/plastic. After searching the web, it appears that this type of incident is not new. LG advised me to contact a repair facility.
