Garbage
Date of Review: Dec 13, 2007
The Bottom Line: Mine may have just been a lemon, But if you have problems too, you are out of luck. LG is no help with warranty or service.
I purchased this thing in May of 2007. Within a month, I tried my first recording. I had a DVD-RW stop recording before the program was done and got the message that it was a defective disk. I gave the machine the benefit of the doubt and thought maybe the disk was used too many times on my previous machine. A few weeks later it happened again. Then after a third time I dug out the warranty info -- only 30 days for labor. Still hoping it was bad disks I got brave and used a DVD-R to transfer a program from my DVR. I spent almost 2 hours viewing and editing out commercials. When I went to finalize it, it froze up. When I got the LG DR787T to come back on again the disk was a coaster. I then gave up on recording on it until I contacted service. In the mean time I wanted to play a commercial DVD. It got to a point on the disk where it pixelated up and froze. Then while trying to entertain my five year old niece it happened again. I had to take 15 minutes to disconnect and hook up a different player. This thing has been sitting on a shelf for the last three weeks now because I can't get hold of anybody at LG. The LG web site says the only service place near me is ten miles away in a downtown area. I called the service number. After waiting on hold for 10 minutes they finally answer and take your name and number to call you back. They never did. Three days later and at 10:30 CST I called again. The same thing, they wanted to take my number and call me back. Even if they really do call me back this time, people are sleeping after 11:00 in our house.
It may be just a rare lemon from LG, but their warranty and service really suck.
