Easy on the back, ears, and eyes
Date of Review: Jul 23, 2008
The Bottom Line: After 9 months, it continues to work perfectly. I?ve had no problems, and have never even read the manual. It?s all self-explanatory. We have no complaints.
When our Kenmore washer broke for the second time, we decided to replace it and our dryer with a set. The set we chose included the LG DLE7177 dryer in white, with a pedestal drawer.
The dryer is an attractive one, stylish and modern. With the pedestal, you no longer have to bend low to load and unload.
Why LG? In short, because they have a fantastic product at a decent price. Consumer Reports rated both the washer and dryer highly, though they claim not to have enough data on how well the machine holds up over time. The LG's have only been on sale in the U.S. for about 5 years, but they have been for sale in Japan and Europe for much longer. However, Consumer Reports does not have enough response in the U.S. to validate the machine's repair history.
The LG is the only Washer and Dryer consistently listed on Consumer Reports. As I wanted a matched set, I chose the quiet, elegantly styled, efficient front-loaders with pedestals. Pedestals cost about $100 extra, each. For another $100, you may purchase a color (red for this model, blue for the next-higher model).
The dryer includes a drying rack, side-opening door, rotary dial and push-button dials with a graphical interface. The next model up includes an LCD screen (8377), which for the price difference wasn't worth it to me. All the other features were identical, except the color option for the higher-end model is blue rather than red.
I highly recommend getting the pedestals, which make doing laundry far easier on your back. Pedestals are approximately 18-inches high, and are available in colors to match.
Operation:
The dryer may look intimidating, but is logically organized. Dial up a preset, or set your own drying time with the Manual settings. The dryer has multiple pre-sets, from bulky/large through cotton, delicate, and all the way to freshen up. You can also dial up your own cycle, including how many minutes you'd like to run the dryer. The cycles available call up the pre-set temperature and load size.
A mere push of the button rotates through the different manual features. One button each for heat level, number of minutes, beeper alert, and dry level.
Dryer Features:
7.3 Cubic-foot drum. The drum is so large, it will easily dry a queen-size comforter, or a large pet bed. I tried
Whisper-quiet operation. I've found that talking on the phone while standing next to the dryer in operation does not disrupt my conversation, as the other party cannot even hear it. I've asked. The same is true of the washer, except you do hear sloshing water.

The LG dryer includes Sensor Dry, which won't continue heating clothes once they are no longer damp, preserving the quality and life of your clothes. The dryer beeps when
Assembly:
I heartily recommend getting the dryer delivered with white-glove assembly. The delivery people put it together in about a half hour, including bolting the pedestals to the machines. Although the machines include handles on each side, They are much heavier than normal machines, and therefore more difficult to move.
