Product Review

Died after only 6 weeks

by   bbynee0h ,   Sep 17, 2007

Pros:  So far nothing.

Cons:  Poor quality parts in the TV. Poor customer service.

The Bottom Line:  Don't buy this product. Service is poor and durability is worse. No wonder they put a 2yr warranty on it cause they know if they don't they'll have more complaints.

Overall Rating: 1/5 stars

Author's Review

I purchased this LCD TV on July 29 from a big box electronic store in Burnaby, BC. After 44 days the TV died. Suffice it to say the Big Box Electronic store would have nothing to do with it or me for after sales service because I didn't buy their overpriced extended warranty.

I then called LG directly and they directed me to a local repair shop who came by the next day to pick it up from me. I haven't seem my LCD since then. I called the shop after a week and they said it failed testing after they fixed it as the TV died again on them. At this point I asked for a replacement TV and they directed me back to LG.

I called LG again and they were initially resistant to even documenting my case and providing me with a case number. I insisted and only then was I provided a case number to track my issue and my calls to them. They asked for work orders to be sent to them so that they could evaluate the request for a replacement TV. I was told I would get a call back asap. No call came.

I called again this morning and was told that their phone system was down and didn't know if they received the faxes that were sent. I asked again for them to just replace the TV as it was obviously defective and that 25% of the time that i have been in ownership of it, the TV has been in the repair shop. I asked how that was fair to me and the person in the other end, who said he was a supervisor, told me I would just have to wait till they decided what they would do with it. I asked how long and he didn't know.

I don't recommend the purchase of this or any other LG product at this time, as customer service is not their concern. They said they will keep trying to fix it at their discretion until such time as they feel it is defective. When that is is anyone's guess. Meantime I am without a TV I paid full price for. :(

Sept 28 update: Final Chapter

After a full three weeks of not having a TV and constantly having to coax LG, they finally sent an authorization to replace my LCD with another one. This issue is finally over. I have gone one step further and managed to convince the big box store to exchange the replaced LG for another brand which after some negotiations they agreed to do. I am now the owner of a Sony Bravia, which I have to say is a much nicer TV.
